She strokes a mean wedge.
And do doubt tiger has a gnarly butt ripping wedgie too!
From Leno:
Mrs Woods is "19"
A 10 with a 9 iron
G&P
We all know why he is not going to his own tournament this weekend. But I think it was funny that he said he wouldn't play because of his injuries. Like we were suppose to believe that when he won the US open on a broken leg.
Do you think there would be more public outrage over his "Transgressions" if his wife was better known? I never even knew her name until this happened.
Frankly I find the whole story a yawner . Our country spends a lot of time gloating when well known people get knocked down a peg .
The tournament is for the Tiger Woods Foundation which does charitable work with youths . I guess his charitable work will take a hit because he isn't squeeky clean.
Yes, my thoughts too! It blows my mind that so much time is spent by the media on this story.
Does anyone really give a !@#$ about it?
Well, I'm sure that the same people who buy gossip magazines are thriving on this story... and the people of the real world don't give a rat's fart about it... is my guess...
I couldn't remember the word before . It's called 'schadenfreude'.
Yep!
... Pleasure from the misfortunes of others.
I agree. Tall poppy syndrome is alive and well.
But one obvious question? Why the hell would you cheat when you have her at home.. Frankly I'd never leave the house. :)
I've been thinking the same thing this whole week. Every time I go to Yahoo there's a new story about it.Quote:
Does anyone really give a !@#$ about it?
The story is beginning to resemble a Greek tragedy .
Who'll be my role-model
Now that my role-model is
Gone, gone
He ducked back down the alley
With some roly-poly little bat-faced girl
All along, along
There were incidents and accidents
There were hints and allegations (Paul Simon)
What amazes me is how this is affecting other pro golfers (paychecks).
One pro golfer said thanks to Tiger Woods his kids can go to college all paid for. Wow! He really did raise the prize money that much!
Purses quadupled during the time of Woods . Although they don't expect a decline by that amt. I think the PGA is hoping that he rejoins the circuit before they have to negotiate a new television contract.
Read this from CBS
Woods Leaves PGA in Economic Limbo - CBS Evening News - CBS NewsQuote:
Perhaps no one is looking forward to Tiger's return more than the sponsors of the San Diego Open, formerly the Buick Open, at Torrey Pines - the first PGA tour event of the year Woods usually attends.
"It is somewhere between 15 to 25 percent additional income from those tournaments that have Tiger versus those that don't," said Tom Wilson of the San Diego Open.
Without Tiger, Torrey Pines stands to lose op to $500,000. The Tiger Effect is profound. When he started playing in 1997, the PGA purses totaled just $70 million. Today they're $270 million. Tiger affects broadcasters, too, including CBS Sports - which airs Torrey Pines, the Masters and 19 other tournaments - and NBC Sports, which broadcasts 10, including the U.S Open.
The year Woods' bad knee kept him away from golf, an average of just 2.4 million viewers tuned into golf tournaments, down almost 50 percent from the year before.
"Tiger Woods has meant ratings on television. Tiger Woods has meant an enormous increase in prize money," Dusek said. "For golf, Tiger basically put big-time golf on the map."
The new TV contract is currently in negotiation. The old contract with television and sponsors expires by the end of 2010.
Although new stars will emerge on the scene in his absence ,it is unlikely they would have the same franchising impact that Woods has.
My guess is that he misses the spring tournaments but participates in the rest of the majors.
From TV Bytes.com
Tiger Woods's people have made an announcement: On Friday at 11 a.m. he will conduct a non-press conference!
Woods is expected to discuss his future plans, and to say something about his "indiscretions,” likely in the gentlemanly terms suitable for the setting, the obscene 77,000-square-foot clubhouse, with its baronial fireplaces and framed artwork, of the TPC Sawgrass, at the PGA Tour's headquarters in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.
Woods's agent, Mark Steinberg of IMG — yep, still on the scene — told the AP that "a small group of friends, colleagues and close associates” will join Woods, and that a half-dozen reporters will be allowed to attend the non-press conference. But there will be no questions.
Tiger Woods is a world-class control freak, and in his re-entry into public life which has showered him with wealth and opportunities and trappings that we can only imagine — he is picking up right where he left off. He controls all. He's the same way with his golf ball. He tells it exactly what he wants it to do.
A guess is that Tiger is very angry. Angry at the National Enquirer for breaking the story of his infidelity. Angry at NBC — one of the Tour's most reliable media partners! — for trotting out one of his babes on the Today show with golf buff Matt Lauer. Angry at the mainstream golf press for writing oh-that-Tiger-is-a-fraud stories.
(Yes, it's possible that he'll do something totally radical, announce his retirement or something like that. But would he go to PGA Tour HQ to do it? Doubtful.)
And you know what he'll do with that anger? He'll take it out on his golf ball, whether he's at Arnold Palmer's tournament at Bay Hill in March, the Masters in April, the Players in May, the U.S. Open in June, the British Open in July or the PGA Championship in August. Come September, when the American Ryder Cup team jets off to Wales for a nothing-but-pride team competition? The guess here is he'll be back on hiatus. Of those tournaments how many could he win? Pick a number between one and five.
Another guess is that Woods will do everything he possibly can to keep his marriage to Elin, and to keep his young son and daughter all under one roof. Woods reportedly spent nearly half of his three months in seclusion in a clinic in Hattiesburg, Miss. that specializes in sex addiction. Like other world-class athletes — the elites of the elite — Woods never acknowledges any vulnerabilities. It seems unthinkable that he would actually consider himself to be a sex addict. What is realistic is that he would spend five weeks or so in therapy because his wife felt that was a necessary starting point to reclaiming their marriage.
One more guess for what Woods might say at his non-press conference on Friday, in front of his small group of friends, colleagues, close associates — and the half-dozen seen-but-not-heard reporters He will be seriously cutting back on his off-course activities. (Note to self: Avoid bad joke here.) Some sponsors have cut him loose or reduced his role. Woods will take that in stride and devote more time to his family and to his foundation. The most impressive thing Woods ever said came in 2006, at the opening of the Tiger Woods Learning Center in Anaheim, near his boyhood home. He called it the single most important thing he'd ever done. Bill Clinton was standing at his side. Clinton got his second act. Woods will, too. He'll win tournaments, money will come flowing in again and everybody will feel good.
But in the meantime, he's getting off on the weakest of notes, with this non-press conference in a ridiculous palace that pays homage to all the excessiveness Tiger's gaudy Phase I brought. On his first step back, he's showing that he has all the cards, and you and I and all the people who like golf and are fascinated by what he's done in the game, well, we have none. Don't blame Steinberg for this move and don't blame the high-priced polo shirts at the PGA Tour. This move has Tiger Woods written all over it.
Arnold Palmer played for his fans, but Woods never has, and nothing's likely to change. It's arrogant and offputting, the whole idea of this most public of people, one of the best known faces in the world, stepping back into public life without taking so much as a question.
It's also brilliant. He's reminding us, and his opponents, too: he's still in charge.
You do of course know why he would not subject himself to questioning...
Tiger ...what hole are you on now ?
Here is a preview of Tiger's apology as submitted by Peter Jeffrey of the Wall Street Journal .
Video - Humor: Sneak Preview of Tiger's Apology - WSJ.com
LOL! He might as well stand there and stare into the camera if that's a sample of what his apology is going to be like. Not really apologizing and not really admitting to anything. He better say more than that! Lol silly...
Now I see some of the golf reporters are protesting the non press conference because they won't be able to ask questions. Can you blame them? They should go home and watch it on television with the rest of us.
I always find these celebrity apologizes a little strange. I think more people should do what Charles Barkley did when he was caught drunk driving. He was honest and blunt he basically said yup I was stupid cause I drove drunk because I was going to get oral sex from some girl. Everyone accepted this and he is still on TV and doing commercials for Taco Bell.
If Tiger would have come out the next day and said look I shouldn't even be married I don't know why I even got married because I am not the settling down type. I think most people would have said oh he is a pig but at least he was honest. But no now he is in some BS rehab (cause that is what celebrities do when they get in trouble) and he is being standoffish about it which shows people how much of an A-hole he is.
The only person Tiger needs to apologize to is his wife and children and perhaps his sponsors. It is very arrogant of me or anyone else to expect an apology? The guy is human. He is not perfect. Sure he is a public figure, but I don't want to apologize publicly for all the things I have done wrong and I don't think the average person wants to either. Nobody can grant him forgiveness other than his wife and God.
G&P
That is why I like Charles Barkley he never apologized and no one cared. Eldridge Woods the man doesn't owe us anything. Really the people who created this false image of him being one of the good guys are the people who need to apologize
Nikki because those people have been grooming this image of him since he was 5 years old. His entire life he was told how to act and how to put on this good guy image.
Check out this video
Tiger Woods At 2 Years Old - Video
I don't think he is 2 in this video as the title says.
If he expects to retain the image that made him his fortune he had better do a better job than that patent phoney presser he held today. I don't have a dog in this because I couldn't care less if professional golf goes the way of roller derby . But he owes much more than just an explanation to his family.
His profession had a stake in the image that he helped promote. His career was much bigger than his ability to swing a club. It was carefully groomed to promote not just himself ,but his industry. That's why he made the big bucks.
Here is the thing that confuses me. Do you want him to apologize for him being who he actually is, His dad was divorced 3 times so it is in his blood. Or do you want him to apologize for presenting an image that everyone bought into that wasn't true? I guess I don't understand why people need an apology from a spokesman. Are the golf clubs he sold for Nike not as good anymore. Does the Gatorade not replace electrolytes anymore because he is a cheater. I guess I would expect an apology if he sold 10 million books on the secret to a happy marriage.
I think the apology is more geared towards his business model (basically the second option you presented). I think it has more to do with preserving sponsors than anything else.
I agree that the farce was carefully groomed to send a message to his sponsors. I again point out that his lack of character cost his whole profession and not just him.
Now you could say that it was his talent that enabled them to promote him ;but he was able to get the big buck purses ;not only because of his skills ,but in the image that was carefully crafted .
He is not only a player of the game ,he is also the markettable commodity ;the product ,and that is why the star athletes get the big bucks.
That is why team sports put a general morals clause in the player contracts... Because the player is not only representing themselves ;but also the game.
Take it or leave it . He could've rejected that and played the game every day he wanted to as an amateur.
He should have never gotten married. If he would have never gotten married and this came out that he is a whore no one would care at all. Derek Jeter makes a ton of money while being on page 6 with different women and no one cares.
Correct ;although when Steinbrenner told Jeter he wasn't focused as a leader of the team Jeter took the criticism to heart and at least publicly changed the image.
Again ;if Tiger were not a star (and you are probably correct about the marital status ) then there would be no public issue what-so-ever . But a big part of his image that was promoted was the family man.
Asked in an interview "family first and golf second ... always been that way?" Woods replied: "Always. Always."
He fostered the phoney image to promote himself . He could've just as easily been golf's swinger and maybe still had been as successful . But I doubt it... and of course everything about golf has been about Tiger for over a decade.
The Jeter example really doesn't apply because he is not even the best player on his team .
Michael Jordan's career is more of an example;and he took a big hit when his image was tarnished.
Well Tiger is an idiot then for saying that.
The sins of the father shall be visited upon the son a thousand times?
So now it's his dad's fault:confused:
I thought his dad only had one wife before he met Kultida.
Not going to lie, I bought into that image, paid in full.
When you're a spokesperson aren't you sort of an employee?
He signed contracts and some of those contracts have morals clause of which he broke big time, he did have to apologize to them as well. What he did affected more people than just his wife.
No I am not blaming it on his dad but I am not surprised. So now we get to the nitty gritty you bought into an image and now you are mad cause you were suckered. The golf equipment, the food and the cars he endorsed still work exactly the same way they did the before he was caught. So I don't think he owes any of us an apology.
Not mad, just disappointed.
I bought into the squeaky clean part, the products I couldn't care less about.
Never bought into anybody else's image because right now I can't think of any other athlete who was marketed more cleaner than Tiger.
Like I posted before, he only cheated on his wife since she's the only one married to him (let's hope:eek:) but his cheating on her affected more people that's why he apologized to those people in his speech.
Let's just hope he continues with his treatment and get's it together, he'll be all right, nobody's perfect and we all make mistakes. We should all be glad we didn't have to call a press conference for them.:p
That press conference would still be going on.
