Any American Idol fans out there?
It's one of only 2-3 "network" TV shows we watch in my house... and for A.I. the eight of us are glued!

I'm rooting for the Joe Cocker-ish fella, but am fairly sure he can't win.:(

I predict the crooner was voted out yesterday. We'll find out tonight.

I have yet to match ANY "reality" show for more then the few seconds it takes to flip the remote. I absolutely refuse.

I love them all. Not the "Survivor" and "Apprentice" crap, but stuff like
    Cops
    Emergency Room/Paramedic shows
    Etc...
And our all-time favorite: America's Funniest Videos. We DVR 'em and ff through the bad humor and advertisements. We've seen most episodes many times, but still laugh our rumps off over those clips!

Well I forgot about AFV. I have watched that on occasion.

I was wrong. The crooner is still in...

... but so is my favorite, the Rocker!

    Hi,
I, and my wife, really enjoy American Idol, and sometimes it's great to use the VCR to record. I LOVE fast-forwarding passed all the commercials! Only hitch is when she wants to watch it Live, so she can call in an vote.
My wife likes the "Dancing with the stars", and I'm sure another episode will be forthcoming.
I don't care for the reality shows with the "eating insects", etc, Rather watch old Gunsmoke, Bonanza, and Andy Griffith shows. It's sad about Don Knotts, he will be missed by many.

I didn't notice this thread here before, I guess because I don't check the member discussions board much. But I absolutely love American Idol, too. I am very pleased with who was chosen for the top 12 and look forward to the future episodes! Rick I also really like "The Rocker"... I can't remember his name. I also really like Bucky. Bo and Reuben are my eternal favorites, though, haha. I was so excited to see Bo perform again the other night. Of the girls, I like Katherine McPhee, Mandisa, Paris Bennett, and the blond girl with the southern accent (also don't remember her name) who was compared to Carrie Underwood by Simon. I think this year is going to be really interesting, there are a lot of great singers.

I like some of the other reality shows that were mentioned, too. I think The Amazing Race is my favorite other than American Idol, and I also like Wife Swap, because it brings 2 very different families together, and usually there is some improvement to both families afterwards. Trading Spouses was like that too, but I can't seem to find it anymore.

I can't say I care for the mean-spirited shows like Survivor or the Apprentice, though. Too much fighting and betrayal. And did anyone see My Big Fat Obnoxious Fiancé? That one was just awful.

Anyway thanks so much for starting this thread, Rick! You'll see me posting here after each American Idol show... I absolutely love it, I'm the biggest fan! :) :) :)

I am fairly confident that a guy will make it this year... althought I think America will not vote Taylor in.

TV in my house is off on Wednesdays and Sundays so I have to watch the recording of wednesdays singing taped. I'll watch it before Thursdays voting and see if I can predict who will go bye bye.

Well I finally was able to watch this past week's episodes. It was no surprise to me that Melissa went home, although I don't believe she was the worst singer by far. But she's been in the bottom three and has narrowly missed going home several times, so I knew she'd be leaving sooner or later.

Rick, I agree with you about Taylor. He is an awesome talent, but he looks too old to be the American Idol. I think Chris (bald guy) has a good chance to win this year. Katherine McPhee is also very good, but I agree with you that it will likely be a guy.

I think the next two guys to go will be kevin and ace.

None of the gals impress me - and it seems Mandissa is really the best... but would America vote someone in who'se so large? I know it sounds mean, but a pretty face goes a long way on American Idol, that I know...
  • Mar 18, 2006, 01:41 PM

Yeah I agree... Kevin and Ace are not as good as the rest, and Mandisa is too large. Reuben won 2 years ago and he was large, but he was also a guy, and the public seems to be harder on large women than on large men.

The only thing I wish is that I could vote! Since I am outside of the US I can't. I can vote in Canadian Idol of course, but I don't like it as much.

    So Kevin bit the dust.

I think the next guy to go will be Ace. Not sure about the gals.

    Rock on Taylor Hicks!

Yeah I was really glad Kevin went! Everyone seemed to like him but I just found him annoying. I thought Lisa was going last night, because she's been in the bottom several times and her performance wasn't great this week.

I'm not sure about Ace, but you could be right. I guess it depends on how he performs next week. Bucky might go too, he's been in the bottom a couple of times now.

Btw, I love the picture of the pope you have as your avatar lol. John Paul II I think? I can't imagine Benedict doing that.

Yeah, Kevin was definitely too dweebie to be an AI.

When Bucky is in his groove, he does great.. but sometimes picks weak tunes.

Yes!! If they do a remake of Revenge of the Nerds he should definitely star in it. That creepy guy Scott from last season can be his body guard in the movie LOL.

Btw, who would you like to see as the top 3 for the final show(s)? My favorite for the top 3 would be Taylor, Chris and Mandisa. But I don't think it's going to turn out that way.

I think Chris and Mandissa are shoo-ins for 2 of the final three. Yep, I'd LOVE to see Taylor in it too, but have no clue who it might be.

Last year I'd have sworn that the Rocker couldn't make it to the final 2 but I was wrong on that one. Who knows how these things can go.

Errr. I wasn't very happy with the performances last night, they mostly all sucked IMO. I'm going to predict that either Lisa or Ace will go home tonight. Probably Lisa. She's not the worst but she's been in the bottom three consistently. Who I'd really like to see go home is Kelly, as I think she did really poorly last night. But she has a strong fan base and I don't think she'll go home just yet.

I agree! Very boring show last night. Simon loved Taylor, though. That was cool.

Ace stunk a big one, and Chris went way overboard. Until now I've thought he was awesome, but that Creed tune was too much. If he was going to do Creed, he should have done Arms Wide Open, or something else mellower than the one he did.

I agree: Ace or Lisa out of there tonight.

Yep I agree about the Creed song. Creed is just way too hard alternative for American Idol. As Simon said, Creed wouldn't be caught dead on the show, and he's right. Chris is very talented and he'll make a great alternative album, but he should try to sing some softer songs for a change.

I thought Taylor did awesome. In fact, I think he does wonderfully every single week. I love his voice, and I wish him much success. I'm certainly going to buy his first album when it comes out.

Wow, I'm mindblown that Mandissa got voted off. Frankly I'm sure it's just because she's fat. She has the best voice of the females. How Ace is staying in there I cannot guess!. except to think that it's a bunch of 21 year olds voting for him cause they think he's good looking!

    Hey, rickj,
I was completely shocked, too!! Guess that's what makes life interesting.
Mandissa, in my opinion, has the best voice of all of them! She was even told by Barry Manilow (spelling?) that she could have a job with his team anytime, if she didn't win this. I am sure she will have many, many offers from others!
I like Kelly; I think that's the name... Blonde girl, country singer... dumb as a rock sometimes, but really good.
  • Apr 8, 2006, 01:07 PM

I think that Mandisa was sent home because the last couple of weeks her choice of songs wasn't as good as before. I agree too that because she is so heavy, the really awesome performances on her part was the only reason she was staying, and as soon as she had a bad week she put herself in jeopardy and was voted off. Like you say Fred, Mandisa was offered a job by Barry Manilow, so I hope she takes it! She may have received other offers too that we're not aware of. I'm sure we'll be seeing her again.

I agree about Ace too. He's not very good. But yeah he IS very attractive, if you like the pretty boy look. Personally I don't LOL. I'd prefer someone like Bo Bice from last year or Chris from this year (with hair though!). I like more "rugged" looking guys. I also like guys who sing like MEN haha. Ace sings too pretty boy-ish for me.

I have no idea what's going to happen this coming week. I guess it will depend a lot on the singing. But judging by who was in the bottom three this week, it seems like anyone is fair game to get booted off. I hope they sing some better songs this week, though... horror of horrors, I'm actually getting kind of bored with the show, especially the last 2 weeks!

Errr, I wonder how many Queen songs are going to be murdered tonight? Queen is one of my favorite bands, so I'm going to be very critical! :p

I think it was basically all not so hot.

... and I've lost all respect for Chris: He just doesn't get it. Why does he have to try to turn everything into Metal?

Truthfully, I fell asleep before the last two, including my favorite... so I'll have to watch the recording tonight.

Again, Ace stunk it up big time!! I can't believe that joker is still in there!

Yeah I agree. I was very, very unimpressed with the show, it was boring, and no one stood out as being fantastic. I have no idea who will go home tonight. Once again, I have a feeling the voting is about who's most popular, and not the best singers. Even Randy said vote for people in spite of the song. That stinks. :(

What happened to Queen tonight? I thought they were going to perform? We had Passover Seder and I purposely DVRed the show so I could see Queen, but they weren't there. :(

Well I have no idea who's getting kicked off tonight... I thought they all did a good job, much better than last week! I guess Queen songs are very hard to sing! :p

I'm going to make a guess though and say Elliot or Ace, just because they were the weakest compared to the others last night.

Well Ace went home. No surprise there. But I was surprised at who was in the bottom three. I thought Chris and Paris did really well last night.

Ace went home. He should have been voted off much earlier, but has many "followers".
Another probably to be voted off will be Elliot Yamin, who has a great voice, but not that much "showmanship".
Chris will probably be off, too.
Next American Idol, my prediction, will be Kelly. And, I hope she has a trustworthy agent! She will need it.

I think Elliot has the best voice of the remainders, but you're right about showmanship. I think my favorite, Taylor, has the best showmanship, but his "same old same old" voice will, I think, not get enough votes to win it.

Well, now we are down to 5? I'm not sure I'm as excited about it anymore, since my baby Noah is here, haha! :p But I will try to watch tonight, in any event. I hope they perform better, as I was getting a little bored by the performances lately.

Taylor did okay I think. Not the best I've ever seen him, but pretty good. I really hated Chris last night. Way too rock alternative. Not sure who will go home. Maybe Elliot or Paris.
  • May 3, 2006, 09:08 AM
    RickJ
I think the brunette is better than Paris - and I like Elliot far more than Chris.

Both Chris and Elliot have fantastic voices: Chris being the better showman and Elliot being far better with a wider variety of songs.

If I were voting for who gets booted, I'd have to go with Paris.
  • May 3, 2006, 09:22 AM

I agree with you. I think Paris will likely go. If someone else goes I will be very surprised.

    We were right!

Now, who's next for the chopping block?

I am now fully convinced that Elliot has the best voice of the bunch, but Taylor is still my favorite...

I'm convinced that from here on out, quality means little. People are already decided who their favorite is. Their favorite could puke on the stage and it wouldn't matter.

A wild guess: Chris will go next.
  • May 7, 2006, 06:16 PM

Yes I agree, singing doesn't matter much from here on. Although, if someone is really terrible this coming week it might be the difference between staying another week and going home.

I have no idea who will go this week... I usually like to predict after I see them sing. But I will make a wild guess too and say it will be Elliot. Then on Wednesday we can see which of us is right. ;)
