    Let's have a war
Not content with a debacle, politicians have turned to an age old remedy for illegal immigration. A military solution. Well it has worked for poverty, it has worked for drugs, it even worked for terrorism, so let's have a war on people smugglers

Coalition wants military-led campaign against people smugglers - ABC News (Australian Broadcasting Corporation)

I can see it now; clandestine strikes on the Indonesian coast, shots across the bow, interrogation in dark rooms, concentration camps. Wait a minute how does this differ from the current approach?

A country has the right to defend its borders. By any means necessary.

I'm not quite sure what stopping and arresting shipping in the Indian Ocean amounts to but let me quote "we will decide who comes here and the circumstances under which they come"

Yes I agree completely but escalation brings with it miscalculation, I mean what do we have that fleet of submarines for anyway

If it takes that... but at least you don't have a dark border people can sneak across at night... they have to get into sometimes leaks boats... and you do have an enormous coastline.

Of course you could breed box jellyfish and air drop them on the offending leaky boats.

They sail at all times, even night, how they can see where they are going I don't know, I've been on the Indian Ocean, very dark. The boats are always leaky, you don't think the Indonesians sell them the good ones do you? One didn't make it off the Indonesian coast the other day. I have no doubt the box jellyfish are doing their part in protecting our borders, this is why the boats prefer to make for Christmas Island, to land on the coast is probably certain death, you know cannibals, snakes, crocodiles and other sundry nasties we keep a secret. Personally I don't understand this obsession with not just leaving them to it. We seem to think we have to save everyone

I feel they are responsible for their own private hells on earth... they need to clean up their own house instead of moving to another to wreck too.

Once upon a time in the past they worked hard and strived to assimilate to the local way of doing things... instead of demanding everyone change to do things their way... that strangely enough they hated enough that they left it.

France is a prime example... they make a perfectly good law preventing people from wearing masks in public... and the animals riot and burn cars and buildings...

France should round them up and send them back to some Islamic Utopia... like Iran.. Iraq or Afghanistan

Yes let them have their caliphate and all live there, I am in favour of it, the islamists are in favour of it, I don't know why they don't like it, a veritable paradise on Earth where they can pray all day, beat their wives, drink coffee and smoke hash. Where you never have to hold an election and all you could ever want to know is found in the Koran. I'm glad this country never had any history of Islam they can't claim it as part of the caliphate

This gets better, the WAR will be led by a three star general operating outside of the military chain of command, this is the old public service "supremo" solution. When the problem gets too big appoint a "supremo" and harking back to 2005, it was the solution then so how come we didn't win the war in 2005? Well actually we did; the boats stopped.

The Indonesians are saying they are unhappy we didn't consult them about PNG. I wasn't aware we had contracted out our foreign policy or immigration policy. I expect they are becoming aware that their inaction and corruption is about to bit them in the bum as they will have more unwanted guests and the lovely little business in boat sales will crash

Maybe they will get it if they start getting boatlaods of people themselves... from just for the sake of argument... Burma (Myanmar).

Really not unlike Mexico bellyaching about our not wanting the Mexicans sneaking across when they themselves are REALLY harsh on the people sneaking across THEIR southern Border.

Indonesians aren't signatories to the refugee convention so it is not an attractive place even for Muslims, no, they just sneak through with a few bribes but I hear the Iranians have worn out their welcome.

I think maybe the mexicans are moving them on, even their own people, they are still unhappy about that war they lost so long ago and how better to retake territory than migration

They are less entitled to that territory than they are to their own land... since they took that off the Native Americans only a few hundred years earlier..

Hey I didn't see you not taking indian land even more recently than that, you are both tared with the same brush. You were successful in your conquest of a great deal of North America, the habitable bits anyway, you came out ahead and the mexicans got left with the part you didn't want

They picked a fight and they lost... to the victor goes the spoils...

I don't see Austria, France and Italy handing back territory to the Germans that was taken off them. And a lot of other places around the world too..

Only the dumazzes in the Owebama administration... but we know they are racist fools.

Also... it could be argued that Australia was taken from the Aburigines, and much the same with New Zealand etc...

Australia and New Zealand have different circumstances.

Australia wasn't conquered, very few skirmishes with the aboriginees who lived in small tribal groups. It would be very difficult to give it back except in the far north. In New Zealand there was a war which resulted in a treaty and the native people remain a strong and cohestive group within that society

A lot of the USA didn't actually have people living on it at the moment either... but that didn't really change the reality.

Just because they might not have been using it... it was still theirs.
