    It's come to this...

CDC says Americans still consume too much, but studies show no benefit in reducing salt

ATLANTA, GA — A recent report from the CDC reviewed the health benefits of reducing salt and say that, even though Americans consume too much salt, major reductions is no longer considered a substantial health hazard. The CDC even reported that reducing salt intake to below 1 tsp per day may be dangerous to your health.

Absent from the CDC study was the difference between healthy mineral salts and iodized table salt. Most of the studies, including one from the National Academies Institute of Medicine (IOM) showed no relationship between salt and a person’s health.

One study from 2011, followed 28,800 subjects with high blood pressure ages 55 and older. The study followed them for 4.7 years and measured their salt intake through urinalysis. The report stated the risks of heart attacks, strokes, congestive heart failure and death from heart disease increased significantly for those consuming more than 7,000 milligrams of sodium a day and for those consuming fewer than 3,000 milligrams of sodium a day.

Basically, the report says that consuming anything between 1-1/2 and 3 tsp of salt per day is just fine, and there were adverse effects from eating more than that or less than that.
So, while waiting for a mea culpa from nanny Bloomberg that will never come I think I'll have some crisp, delicious, salty chips.

It was always a whole lot of BS . The caveat however is consumption of unbleached and unprocessed sea salt is a far superior option to your typical store bought table salt. . I would not use the bleached version that removes many of the vital minerals from the salt. And in sea salt ,the total sodium content is less.

The CDC is alternately a useful public education source and alternately ludicrous . This is the gvt agency that spent tax dollars publishing 'Preparedness 101: Zombie Apocalypse '. This is the organization that routinely tries to get every American to get annual flu shots . Their information about lyme disease is incredibly and irresponsibly wrong and outdated . In fact ,lyme is an untold of ,almost incurable, growing health crises .

    Hello again,

Isn't this the thread where the right wingers think the Justice Department is trying to foment riots if Zimmerman is freed?? Well, it's just as I thought. It's actually a right wing PLOT to FOMENT riots... Whoda thunk that?

You know, once I thought of the Republicans as the loyal opposition.. Now, I'm beginning to think they're my ENEMY...

Funny I saw those same documents and it has the DOJ sending people to organise protests... ( something that's not their job and is HIGHLY biased anyway) when the DOJ claims they don't have the resources to stop the drug smugglers.. or the illegals... but then since the DOJ was involved in arming the Mexican drug cartels... its no wonder they are protecting their drug runners too.

    Hello again,

I must inject a bit of reality into this conversation... I tried yesterday, but was told that long term civil service employees would DO whatever work, their supervisors TOLD them to do, EVEN if it was highly unethical, and EVEN if they lost their jobs over it..

But, I don't think that's so. Even if George W. Bush was ordering them to do it, I WOULDN'T believe it. The reason has NOTHING to do with Holder, Obama, Martin or Zimmerman.

It's simply that (1) well, jobs are hard to come by these days, (2) they wouldn't get fired if they REFUSED, (3) they HAVE very good jobs and make a LOT of money, (4) and finally, they're NOT stupid.

Would YOU obey your supervisor IF you knew you'd get fired for doing so?? Why, on earth, would you think these people would??

It's because your HATE blinds you from reality.
