The players are close to killing the goose that lays golden eggs for them .The ratings for NFL have been going down for a year ,and this protest is part of the reason why . They should look at the example of Oprah Winfrey to see how turning a mostly entertainment venue into a political platform can turn on the host quickly .
She was riding the top of the television world until she made the mistake of endorsing the emperor for President . May 2007 she was a guest on Larry King's show . She had already endorsed the emperor . Larry King asked her “Is there a side of you, the woman side, that would lean toward a Hillary?” She replied;“Well, I have great respect for Hillary Clinton"...“I think I’ve said this before, and it’s true: Because I am for Barack does not mean I am against Hillary or anybody else.”

The problem was that most of her audience was white females . Oprah had chosen the less qualified, less experienced black man over the more qualified, more experienced white woman. Her message board was soon overwhelmed with angry postings. Major media began to notice and began reporting the eroding support she was getting from her core audience. She lost over 10 percent of her viewers, and she knew her #1 status on television was about to end. She pulled the plug on her show before the inevitable crash happened . The NFL has such a huge market share that it can absorb the loss in ratings temporarily . But the Oprah example should warn them how fast things can go bad .

So backing the wrong horse got rid of Winfrey, good. Media people should stay out of it. And so should sports people

You are moving the discussion exactly where Trump wants it to go - to TV ratings and the NFL and, good Lord, Oprah Winfrey. I thought you were smarter than that, Tom, and could see through Trump's devious ways.

The issue is about black men being gunned down by the police. Not the NFL, not the anthem, and certainly not Oprah Winfrey!! Don't be a foil for Trump, he has more than enough of those.

cute . The Ravens tried to turn their protest into a
'pre-anthem' prayer . The fans saw through it and booed . The only preception that really matters is the paying audience ;and after a year of this every single football weekend ,they've had enough .

TV revenues bring in the bulk of the loot.

NFL TV revenues strong for now, but networks are preparing for ad slump

So lets not blame the whole mess on the players since it's many more things involved.

WRONG!!! The perception that matters is justice and the criminal killing of Americans by the police. Like too many right-wing Republicans, the only thing that matters is the almighty dollar.
