Last year the emperor said that even though Evita had been "careless " in using a private server to handle classified information ;her "intent " had not been to harm national security ,and that the whole issue had been over stated .

Then a month later in July ,Comey had his famous announcement about the investigation . He said that Evita had been "extremely careless" in transmitting classified information with her private server ..... but she did not have bad "intent " .He declared that no prosecutor would charge her given those facts .

Now it could be argued that the emperor was putting pressure ,or at least sending signals to Comey that he did not want Evita prosecuted .

Back then no one thought the emperor was obstructing justice in an investigation just because he signaled that he did not want Evita prosecuted . But a handwritten note that Comey wrote to himself ,that no one besides Comey (and whoever else he decided to share it with ),presumably saying that Trump asked him if it was possible to drop the investigation of Flynn is now some kind of smoking gun that Trump tried to obstruct justice .

Is that the best they got ? The Slimes did not even see the memo before reporting on it' content . If Trump obstructed with his comment to Comey then so did the emperor in his statement. But even reading the tidbit that the Slimes reported ,Trump's comment is more in line with asking Comey to give a 'good guy' a break . He was not ordering him to do anything . If Trump's comment was a veiled order then so was the emperor's .Was it criminal for Trump to hope the investigation was dropped ? And as I already noted ;if Comey thought there was an obstruction of justice ,it was his lawful duty to report it .

My guess is that Comey was mad he didn't get that fabulous chocolate cake that Trump served foreigners. Or maybe he had to go to the White house for dinner instead of Mara Lago! Or BOTH!!

That's sort of what I thought. That may be a long shot, but as Trump seemingly is self destructing, I doubt Pence will. He is your mainstream conservative that the right can rally around. Had he run on hi own he would have been toast though.

Report it to WHO??? HE'S a cop.. He's the guy stuff like that should be reported TO.. When investigators FIND stuff, they don't "report" it.. They put it IN the file. When they HAVE their case, they "report" it in the form of an indictment..

Comey was a law enforcement officer . If cops are being bribed or sees a cover up is it not their duty to report it ? Yes it is . As to who Comey should've reported it to ,obviously to his superiors in the Justice Dept ,or to any one of the Congressional Committees he has testified to ;or the the prosecutor investigating Flynn in Virginia ...just to name a few .

He clearly did not perceive himself to have been impeded because he neither resigned nor reported a crime up or down his chain of command. In Senate testimony, under oath , on May 3 ,well after his chat with Trump ,Comey testified that neither he nor the FBI had been under any pressure to drop the investigation . He said the FBI has always been free to operate without political interference. Was that perjury ? The Flynn investigation continued and is now a Grand Jury is Virginia has issued subpoenas.

You should read my observation #41 again.

I wasn't comparing Evita to Trump . I was comparing the pressure the emperor put on Comey to the perceived pressure Trump put on Comey . It is a valid comparison. We are talking about actions less than a year from each event . If what Trump did by telling Comey how he preferred the investigation went was obstruction, then so too was the emperor's remarks .

I won't point out the differing styles of Obama, and Trump, but will point out that the Orangeman made Comey make a note for later, and further looked suspicious to me, and everybody else! Bet Trump loves everybody making nice to him on his "tour", but what comes from selling more guns and stuff to Arabian dictators and trouble makers could end up anywhere in the world, remain to be seen. Looks good on TV though doesn't it?

Tal , Show me the FBI in the Constitution. The FBI is an instrument of the Justice Dept ,and that in turn is an instrument of the only person that the Constitution vests law enforcement powers upon . Had he ordered the investigation closed it would've been in his perusal . It would be up to Congress to determine if that amounts to an impeachable offense .

Sure Herr Donald can order the investigation closed, and fire the special counsel, and anybody else he wants out. We'll see how that works for him.

Let's make them martyrs . Prosecute them . Someone in the White House has leaked classified information ;information that was designed to protect citizens from government snooping . That provision of FISA law is in serious jeopardy and that is not a good thing because the FISA law is a very useful law to combat espionage and terror threats .
