Why do people object to a punishment that fits the crime.

I sure will not want someone who has raped or murdered or done anything brutal to be fed clothed and live without doing a days work to earn his bread, at the expense of the state.

I also think the family of the victim should have a say in the punishment if the person committed murder, like the murderer pay them or if the family wishes death by whichever means allowed by the courts.

It is giving the criminals an incentive, do as you want and all you will get is a slap on the wrist and free to do as you want.

Obviously the person has to be proven to have committed the crime.

I don't have the sources in front of me but there was once a guy who was against the guillotine and wanted it abollished because it was to inhumane. When the time came that he was to have his head chopped off he said if he still felt the pain and was alive for a few seconds after the loss of his head he would blink his eyes 3 times. Well sure enough, his head rolls off and he blinks his eyes 3 times. I learned that in history class but as I just typed it out, it sounded like a load of crap.

Let's assume that the criminal DID actually feel pain after the use of the guillotine. Let's assume that it is even a LOT of pain.

Is that a reason to BAN the guillotine?

Avoiding "cruel and inhuman" punishment doesn't mean that the punishment has to be "pain free".

Hey, I agree with you 100%. I was just saying what I had learned. I think the person should be inflicted with more pain then they inflicted on another. I think it shoule be the eye for an eye kind of deal.

Ok, first we need to starve the criminal, then we need to hang him by the neck until done, then we need to chop of his head. This will definitely preclude any hope for an appeal of his sentence if the needle doesn't stay in their veins.

Actually, I would think vaporizing the person would be very useful then there is no pesky body to take up burial space in the cemetery.

And televising this gruesome mess is definitely harking back to the Colisseum and the gladiators and the Christians being fed to the lions, tigers and stomped to death by elephants. And you want this sort of entertainment?? Huh?? Just watch a few old war movies and get enough killing or the movie series "SAW" if you want blood, guts, and gore.

I'm with Adam on prisons. As punishment, warehousing a person with food, healthcare, recreational facilities, and other bad guys to learn from is stupid. It was set up as rehabilitation and does not seem to have worked very well for that, either.

For minor crimes, my vote is restitution and (not or) public flogging.

For capital crimes, a rope is cheap and reusable, if not always certain. The gas chamber is as reliable as condoms.

I don't believe in death penalty since the system is not 100% perfect - e.g.. Oj Simpson. They should have there crime tattooed to their forehead. I heard there is honor among criminals. No workout room or weights. They should dig a hole then fill it up all the rest of the days of their lives. No TV. No reading materials for lifers. If they can't dig holes and fill them up then they can clean bathrooms with their tongue. Diet will consist of beans water bread and vegetables only. If they are not able to do the digging or cleaning then they can be the practice subjects for healthcare traing: foley catheters, chest tubes, intubAtions, central lines, colonoscopies etc.

You know twinkie that is a great idea. Forget the executions lets bring back the Coliseum. But this time no killing Christians just because they are Christian. You have two murders in there that fight to the death. You win you just get to fight another day. It would be HUGE!! Think about it MMA or cage fighting (whatever you want to call it) is really big right now people love it. It is not too much different then the Gladiators except there is no killing. Can you Imagine a fight card where everyone who loses dies. Pay Per View money for that would be through the roof.

I say forget feeding them at all. They shouldn't be rewarded with food for doing something wrong such as murder or rape or molesting. I don't see the problem with it being like, hey, You killed that person, guess what? BANG, then they are dead. No more problems out of them. Anybody else want to die for doing a crime? But if two people are fighting in the middle of the street I would say most people would stop and watch the two people fighting. They wouldn't just stop they would pull out their cell phones and record it so they can show their friends what they missed. And they would cheer.

What YOU folks are talking about here is MAYHEM against people... Oh, I UNDERSTAND the talk. I was a talker once too... But, as I suggested above, I think it's ONLY talk... Most of the talkers have never actually seen MAYHEM against people. I'm thinking that if they DID, they'd be turned OFF by it - not turned ON as many of you appear to be...

But, I'm a guy who HAS seen MAYHEM against people. So, I think if people saw two men cutting each other's guts out with knives, they would turn away... and they wouldn't be cheering..

I have seen my fill of Mayhem here in North Philly (and so has my wife so we are moving to the suburbs at the end of the month). I've seen a guys head cracked open with a baseball bat when I was 16. I've seen a person get shot before who was only 100 feet away from me. It is brutal. You are right seeing a persons brain on the pavement isn't something you forget.
