I think the differences may lie in the fact that your government does indeed screw up what it gets its mitts on versus our experience. Personally I feel it's because the corporations control your govs decisions for the profit instead of the role of servicing the people. You don't get a lot of Canadians here whining about their government.

It took three weeks to get a friggin test that any diagnostic radiologist or half decent orthopedist can do in 15 or 20 minutes? Heck, we can get the appointment for the scope on the same day we ask for it if we need it.

You waited three weeks for a test that we would have had done in 3 hours.

And you call that satisfactory medical care?

The scope was done by the colorectal surgeon herself. They take out polyps when they find them then schedule your next appointment for preventative scope/polyp removal.

I had an endoscopy three weeks ago.

I saw my GP on Sunday, made the appointment with my GI on Monday for Wednesday (two days later) for the initial visit. One week later we did the endoscopy... and I had the option of doing it sooner, but that was the day that best fit my schedule.

You waited three weeks.:confused:

The fact that you consider that normal is what bothers me most.

And you want to change our system to resemble yours? :eek:

I wouldn't have a problem with a 2-tier system (or at least not as much of one). But that is NOT what is being proposed by Obama & company. They want a single-payer government system with no other options.

Israel has a very nice 2 tier system. The government-sponsored Kupat Cholim system sucks, so everyone gets private-pay healthcare for anything but the most basic services. That's fine with me. Just as long as there are choices.

I agree, a taxpayor funded universal healthcare for things that are cost effective, preventative for the population as a whole. Things like vaccinations, mammograms, screening colonoscopies, blood pressure medication.

And private insurance for the rest.

The thing is Americans are spoiled and expect instant service, 100% good outcomes, no discomfort, and no out of pocket costs.
That is not happening in any system at any cost.
