McCain was actually against the Bush tax cuts before he was for them. Actually, he wasn't against tax cuts per se, he was against tax cuts WITHOUT CORRESPONDING SPENDING CUTS. He was right about that, of course, but as Duke Cheney said, "Reagan proved that deficits don't matter", so the Republican Party repealed "PAYGO" budgeting as soon as they came to power, and combined two big tax cuts with huge spending increases to turn the budget surplus they inherited from the Democtats into the biggest binge of deficit spending and borrowing since WWII.Quote:
