During the height of the Cultural Revolution, Mao called for the young to find and expose the people’s enemies. Red Guards spread across China with Mao's 'Little Red Book' of his quotes . They used that as a reference to determine who was woke in China. It did not matter if the person was a peasant or a prominent pol /influential person. If the woke police determined that person was unworthy ,public humiliation and cancelling followed . Universities were closed, students were sent into the countryside to work and learn from the peasants. People fired, discredited, exiled, destroyed by a politically manipulated mob. Reeducation camps were created .
The only real difference is that America's leftist cultural revolution is more virtual at this point and to date not as violent (although the BLM/Antifa gangs are still maundering .)
