Now let's read the rest of that article:

The release continued, "Initially, the organizers of the event reported 20 attendees to library officials. On Tuesday the Library learned that event organizers are now expecting over 300 people, a number that far exceeds any meeting room capacity within the Huntsville-Madison County Library System."

It went on, "After discussing the logistics of the event with both the Library and the event organizer, the Madison City Police Department and the Madison City Fire Marshal have recommended that the event be held at an alternate location."

I would think that reasonable people would simply have placed a limit on attendance to match the facility. It’s done all the time.

I guess it will all be worked out in court. This is what Cameron's attorney alleges.

"As you are aware, Brave Books has encouraged Americans across the country tohost, “See You at the Library Day” at their local libraries. Until yesterday, you supportedthe event in Huntsville, AL at every step, including offering a large room at the MadisonPublic Library branch to accommodate the 250 local residents who plan to attend. However, upon learning that Mr. Cameron and his friend and Brave Books author, RileyGaines, will be attending in person, you abruptly cancelled the event citing “securityconcerns” from a potential protest of Mr. Cameron and claiming the event exceeds thelibrary’s capacity."

    WG alleged, "You lied."

I questioned, "I did? How so?"

    Answer...crickets.

It really does get a little old.

Back to the topic, I imagine this was a core reason for the cancellation. "...you abruptly cancelled the event citing 'security concerns' from a potential protest of Mr. Cameron."

If not for it being a Kirk Cameron and Riley Gaines event ;they would've found a way .

Yeah, I think that's right. The whole room capacity thing just seems to be a convenient excuse. Worst case scenario should be the library saying, "Our largest room only seats 100 (or whatever), so that will be the limit allowed in." It's interesting how the library's response is significantly different from what Cameron's attorney alleged happened.

The library said their room seats only 20.

And the article makes perfect sense. Too bad the library people didn't guess beforehand that more than 20 people would be interested in attending.

The library did not say that, or at least not that I could find. Can you post the quote?

It's curious to me that a library would not be THRILLED to find out that instead of 20 people attending a book reading, it would be two or three hundred, and that they would do everything possible to make it work. Let them schedule TWO sessions if need be. I would think that would be looked at as a victory for reading by a library that is supposed to promote reading. Alas, it would not have been a positive for the business of drag queen popularization. Bummer.

Perhaps they should have consulted their own website which says they have seating for from 122 to 225, depending on how the room is configured. They list no room that only seats 20.

    From the article:

In a press release, the library system said, "The Moms for Liberty organization had planned to feature Brave Books in a meeting room at Madison Public Library [this coming Saturday]. Due to the event’s anticipated attendance increasing beyond the Library’s capacity, the Library will be unable to host the event."

The release continued, "Initially, the organizers of the event reported 20 attendees to library officials. On Tuesday the Library learned that event organizers are now expecting over 300 people, a number that far exceeds any meeting room capacity within the Huntsville-Madison County Library System."

Yes, the event will be moved to a larger space.

So in your quote, in no place did the library say the room would only seat 20. You misstated that. They did make the plea that they could not seat 300, but there was nothing about a room only seating 20.

I hope the library will cooperate, but I have seen nothing to indicate that they will. I do suspect they would have been more helpful for a drag queen show, but perhaps not. It's only my sense of it.

The library, under legal pressure, is doing the right thing.

    Quote:

On Friday afternoon the library sent this statement: "The Huntsville-Madison County Public Library has agreed with event coordinators, Moms for Liberty, to accommodate their planned meeting on Saturday, August 5, 2023, at the Madison Library with a limit of 225 attendees," the library said.
"In the interest of public safety, Madison Police and the Madison Fire Marshal will be on hand to manage any logistical needs."
So turns out they had a big room after all. How about that.

    https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/us/al...ue/ar-AA1eO4ym

It'll be interesting to see if the library staff decides to do all of this in as uncooperative a manner as possible, or will they work professionally and helpfully.

I'm still perplexed as to why this library staff had to have their collective arm twisted behind their back to force them to have a large reading activity at their facility.

Emily Jones, chair of the Madison County chapter of Moms for Liberty (the event coordinator) tells AFN: "We have made slight adjustments to what we were originally planning, so we will have 225 people who will meet at the big auditorium that is at the back of the [Huntsville-Madison County] Library .... The plan is to have the additional people go to a secondary location [currently being arranged] and then Riley and Kirk will be at both locations."
This sure raises the question of why in the world the library didn't just do this from the very beginning. I can't help but feel that three drag queens would have enjoyed the full cooperation of the library staff. Turns out they could seat a LOT more than 20. Might add that the projected attendance reflects upon what is, I hope, a growing wave of pro Christian-values that could very well be developing in our country.
