Yes and at Ellis island, the immigrants were Brits, Irish and Scottish. Children were separated from their parents and sent into servitude or sent back on the next boat out if they didn't have the proper paperwork, or could write properly. That was all misguided travesty. Those people were promised safe passage and 80 percent never got it once they arrived.
There was a famine in Ireland for chrissake and you were to be the best country for their salvation. Well, it was not.
