You don't know until you get to court. I can't speak for Canadian law but in the US, you might have the option of setting up deferred prosecution - it's like giving you a second chance and if you screw up again, you get charged; if you keep your nose clean, they drop the charges.
I know you already said you are, but get an attorney and let him/her handle this for you. They know what they're doing.
That sounds pretty good. Google did not turn up anything when I was trying to see if we have the deferred up here. I know we have some sort of diversion program but I don't know much about any of this. I like to know all of the options though. The lawyer just said they will appear at the first date and then adjorn 2 weeks so they will look at the files and build a case.
In talking to a different lawyer (2nd opinion), seeing how I have no record of any assault or anything before, I can probably get what they call a peace bond which will basically tell me to keep the peace and good behavior for 1 year, and I can have contact with her with her written consent. For the damage of the car, that will get dropped as they will just want me to pay for it (which I already did).
I feel better after contacting this Attorney. There is a chance they will just withdraw the charges completely, but it seems like this is a likely outcome if they do not withdraw them.
Let us know.
