Windows media player won't play video, only audio
My windows media player will only play audio and not video. Any ideas why?

You need to make sure all your codecs are updated.

A couple of nice software packages to use instead of Windows media player, is Media Player Classic or Video Lan (VLC) media player which has built-in codecs.

Then you need a codecs pack such as ffdshow, which has compatible codecs for xvid, divx, mp4, etc.

Okay, stupid question. How do I update all my codecs? I downloaded a documentary that has the video but no audio. Exact opposite of Anderson's situation.

See my first post above. Ffdshow can be downloaded as a .exe file. Just run it and codecs will be installed.

Oh my God you're the MAN! It took me three attempts to totally figure it out but I've got it with sound. THANK YOU SO MUCH.
