Last evening my cat walked across my hp laptop keyboard and now I cannot use the keyboard or touchpad. I am currently using the onscreen keyboard and external mose. Anyhelp would be appreciated in fixing this. I am using Windows Vista.

It may be the "stickykeys" feature. That's a feature to help handicapped people.
To turn off the sticky key feature, hit the <shift> key 5 times:

But, on the other hand, I'm not sure why it should affect the touchpad.

Boot your PC in normal mode and go to control panel, select the accessibility option where you find mouse, keyboard and sticky keys option then you have to unchanged the sticky keys. Check all the keys on your keyboard where can find any mouse or keyboard enable/disable key.

I am having this same problem - darn silly cat! Anyway, I cannot get to the Ease of Access options since my touchpad/pointer is kaput on my laptop (Vista). I can select it using my up/down arrows but looks I may need an external mouse w/USB to be able to select/change options? The shift key options (hit 5 times or holding down both right and left shift) does not work. Is this XP vs. Vista?

Never mind. I finally found got an external mouse to allow me to enable the touchpad. This problem has tortured me for days. I will NOT leave my laptop open for the cat to sit on, again!!

Help ! Touchpad is not working, I've checked it says "Device is working properly" was working today, then **** down / booted up to use later and nothing! Keyboard is fine, uninstalled drivers, then let it find PS/2 and reinstall - says its found and installed new device! Yeah right and I am a dutchman! (sorry little outburst there) I've even tried to find out if it might be sticky keys. - no they have not been enabled, (my little one was playing games on it - and I figured out he'd possibly presed a random amout of keys at the same time). So any help would be appreciated, its only 3 weeks old, can return but would rather not if its something stupid

Hey all, fixed, try this Fn and F7 keys or similar, that combination switches off the touch pad, and no matter how many times you restore or uninstall.. it won't work, so Fn & F7 seems to be the Ticket.. Mines Works, I am sooooo happy

I have the same problem but cannot do anything as even the on/off switch isn't responding. Again caused by cat walking on it! What can I do as I hate trying to find stuff on iPad.
