    What is the holy spirit?
    Is it a person?

Does ability to speak with great emotion in a tongue that a person never studied prove that he has God’s spirit?

Who is baptized with holy spirit?

    1. No
    2. No
    3. Those who have been Baptized in the Trinitarian formula

All 3 are my opinion based on my faith. Others may disagree ;)

The holy spirit is God. The ability to speak in a tongue never studied is a gift of the holy spirit. There may be a tangible, intense emotional response for which one may believe they have been baptised with the holy spirit.

Not always, in my humble opinion. I believe in some cases of possession by a spirit not of God, the victim has spoken in languages never studied.

I do believe that first-century Christians “spoke in tongues” and that this filled definite needs back then. It served as a sign that God had shifted his favor from the Jewish system to the newly formed Christian congregation. (Heb. 2:2-4)’ (2). It was a practical means to spread the good news on an international scale in a short time. (Acts 1:8)

Do you believe that the “speaking in tongues” that is done today is the same as what was practiced by first-century Christians?

1 John 4:1: “Beloved ones, do not believe every inspired expression [“every spirit,” KJ, RS], but test the inspired expressions to see whether they originate with God.” (See also Matthew 7:21-23; 2 Corinthians 11:14, 15.)

As to your first question: It should be "who" not "what".

    Acts 10:45-47
45 And they of the circumcision which believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because that on the Gentiles also was poured out the gift of the Holy Ghost.
46 For they heard them speak with tongues, and magnify God. Then answered Peter,
47 Can any man forbid water, that these should not be baptized, which have received the Holy Ghost as well as we?
    (KJV)

Peter, and his friends knew that gentiles were now saved because of the manifestation of the "tongues".

AND: They were saved and filled with the Holy Ghost BEFORE they were baptized in water.
(My personal experience was in the same order. Saved, baptized (or filled) in the Holy Ghost, and later baptized in water, in the Name of the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost.

Are "tongues" a certain sign that something is from God? Not at all! I'm certain that the fallen angels know a lot of languages. We still have to be directed by the Bible as to beliefs and conduct

The Holy Spirit is the 3rd part of the Holy trinity, the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.
His function is to produce the life of Jesus in the believer. He will manifest
The fruit of the spirit in the believers life. The 9 attributes of Jesus that developed in the life of someone who has been born again and who has been indwelt by the Holy Spirit are love, joy, peace, long suffering, kindness, goodness, faihfulness, gentleness, and self control, (Gal 5:22-23) The Lord said, " you shall be holy, for I the Lord your god am
holy " To be holy means to be separated to God. Something about God's nature itself speaks of holiness. Being set apart to God makes us holy. We are not made holy by doing good things. We are made holy by faith in Christ, just as we are saved by faith.

The Holy Spirit is a person. If you are given the gift of tongues then this is evidence of being baptised in the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is an indwelling force that empowers the believer but he is just assuredly God as is Jesus and the Father.

As you ask I am baptised in the Holy Spirit and would be happy to answer any questions you have privately

The Holy Spirit is an indenity of likeness to our Father and HIS begotten Son Jesus Christ. The Holy Spirit is righteousness, and the image of who Jesus/flesh spoke and walked in because He was begotten of the Father

As (1 Corinthians 15:49-53) does say that we are borne an image of earth like was Seth borne of Adam's own image(Genesis 5:3). However we shall bear the image of heaven which is one of immortality. The flesh and blood of earth can not inherit the Kingdom of Heaven. However the flesh born again of the spirit in baptism, comes to the image of righteousness, gifted the Holy Spirit. As Christ beared record in suffering righteousness in baptism. But at that time Christ had not yet given up the spirit, yet sent the Holy Spirit to comfort them after He decended into heaven.

In the beginning before satan beguiled Eve, it was the indenity of the Father and Son mentioned as our image in (Genesis 1:26) and our {likeness/righteousness of Holy Spirit}, that man was created.

This heavenly image is what God has delivered to us through Christ Jesus blood shed, and baptism of the Holy Spirit. ONE Lord, ONE Faith, ONE Baptism, ONE Father and God of all, above all, and through all, and in you all.

Thus we can be one with God (John 17:21)

The Holy Spirit is a person because He acts like one.Anything that has a mouth to speak is a person.
Speaking in tongues is a gift of the Holy Spirit. If it is a gift then we cannot talk about an ability of any kind because nobody gives something to someone if that someone already has it.It is a gift meaning there is no possible way to gain this by any kind of ability except by accepting the offering.
To discern who is really baptized by the Holy Spirit do not go after the gifts but after the fruit. If the person produces good fruit then the Holy Spirit is in that person because no bad tree can produce good fruit. You will see many gifted persons not bearing good fruit and from those depart and stay away!
So it is not what I have to testify who I am, but what I do with it!

    Dark_crow,
    1. Yes the Holy Spirit is a person, one of three person in our triune God.
    2. Yes it can happen, but I believe that most who are claiming to be able to do so are not, AND a person can be influenced to do so by an evil spirit.
    3. A person who is baptized as Jesus instructed, that is in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit id baptized in the Holy Spirit.
It is all in the holy book called the Holy bible.

Adam, I trust the Holy Spirit is a spiritual identity, being one with God. The Spirit gifted to the inward man, effective to the conscience of mankind. The Holy Spirit can guild you and comfort your path in righteousness, showing you the way.

It was Christ as man with the Holy Spirit that died on the cross. Who HIS own self bare our sins in HIS own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes we were healed.

Christ delivered mankind's person of flesh. If we chose to continue in sin, then we remain hanging on the tree, unable to die. That is why we have the Baptism, and the putting on of Christ, gifted by the spiritual idenity of the Holy Spirit. To die, and to be buried in Christ. The inward man is born and the outward man who can't please God is dead.

Christ set free the flesh body, no longer in bondage to be a servant to sin. The gift of grace is given by the hand of God

Agree, by the power and glory of God, in accordance to HIS will, we are gifted/given the Holy Spirit in aid to our conscience speaking goodness toward God.

1 Peter 3:16 Having a good conscience; that, whereas they speak evil of you, as of evildoers, they may be ashamed that falsely accuse your good conversation in Christ.

1 Peter 3:21 The like figure whereunto even baptism doth also now save us (not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God,) by the resurrection of Jesus Christ

I agree with adam that the fruit is what is of great importance.
Good fruit comes from a good tree or vine and it is harvested by many.
Through the Holy Spirit we Christians can produce good fruit for all to harvest.
It is also an important way to bring others to Christ for they can gather at our tree or vine to harvest our fruit.
Christianity is supposed to be a religion of attraction not of conquest or of threat or fear of bodily harm as some are.
So we should pray to the Holy Spirit for guidance and inspiration to help us produce good attractive fruit.
    Peace and kindness,

Why do people always assume speaking in tongues is the best gift ever ? It's the first thing they ever come out with ? Why ? Why ? Oh why ? Lol
Yes speaking in tongues is a beautifull gift but personally would I want it reallllyyy ? Ermm no
There are many gifts... if you receive the holy spirit you receive its guidance which to me is the best, it could want you to be a doctor a painter it makes you REALISE the gift you already have as well as giving you one if needed, if your after gifts then good luck because I dout ull get one lol
People say to be I have to be baptised with holy water to receive the holy spirit... ermm do I ? I have not but I received jesus into my life and I received the holy spirit I feel it... like wind breezing on me, feeling, and things that just come into my head like sentences or actions, and at night feel a blanket of warmth being wrapped around...
And did you know in those days the meaning of receiving gifts from the holy spirit actually means CHARISMA lol xxx

    amazingsmile,
First of all I am one of many who does NOT "assume speaking in tongues is the best gift ever".
Really I believe that very few people now days get that gift and most of those that claim it are charlatans.
Speaking in tongues was done as the bible records so that people of many different languages could understand what was said.
We no not see that happening today.
Secondly we do receive the Holy Spirit in more ways than in baptism, but through baptism the Holy Spirit abides in us whicj may not be the case in other ways.

    Fred.

In 1Cor. 12:3-6, So I want you to understand that no one who is speaking with the help of God's Spirit says, "Jesus be cursed." And no one can say, "Jesus is Lord without the
    Help of the Holy Spirit.
    4. There are different kinds of gifts, but they are from the same Spirit. 5. There are
Different ways to sereve but the same Lord to serve. 6. And there are different ways that God works through people but the same God.God works in all of us in everything we do.
1Cor.14:4 The one who speaks in different languages are helping only themsellves, but those who prophesy are helping the whole church.
1Cor. 14:27 When you meet together, if anyone speaks in a different language, it should
Be only be two, or not more than three who speak. They should speak one after the other, and someone else should interpreter, But if there is no interpreter, then those who speak in a different language should be quiet in the church meeting. They should only speak
    To themselves and to God.
1Cor 14:18&19, I thank God that I speak in different kinds of languages more than all of
You. But in the church meetings I would rather speak five words I understand in order
To teach other than thousands of words in a different language.

I speak in tongues and it helps me, but I do not interpret We should pray for gifts
That build up the church and helps others, that's what we are here for.

    Blessings, Maggie 3

    Maggie 3,
Yes, helping others IS what we are here for. It is the fruit we can produce that others can harvest.
It is the job of some others to help us with their fruit, but we should not be disappointed if some people are not helpful.
Rather that should be a lesson to us to be as helpful as we can be.
    Peace and kindness,

Fred your are right, We serve the Lord in Love for one another, the greatest gift
Of all. God intends that we grow in grace together. We are to learn about Him together.
WE are to serve others together, because unity of the heart and action best shows the power of God's love.

    Maggie 3,
Yes and please note the following...
Gospel text (Lc 17:7-10): Jesus said to his disciple, «Who among you would say to your servant coming in from the fields after plowing or tending sheep: 'Come at once and sit down at table?'. No, you tell him: 'Prepare my dinner. Put on your apron and wait on me while I eat and drink; you can eat and drink afterwards'. Do you thank this servant for doing what you commanded? So for you. When you have done all that you have been told to do, you must say: 'We are no more than servants; we have only done our duty'».
    <+><+><+>
As servants of our Lord we should do our duty without expecting a reward.
We only do our duty with love.
    Peace and kindness,
    Fred

    1. The Holy Spirit is not a person. Its God's active force given by God to humans.
    2. Many people FAKE speking in tounges. But some do really speak in tounges - speaking in tounges is of the Holy Spirit, and it edifies the church
    3. Anyone who produces the fruits of the Holy Spirit - Joy, love, peace... etc etc etc are baptised with the HS!
