And also (1930s-1970s) pregnant women got meds/shots containing estrogen (DES) to prevent miscarriage. I worked in four libraries, two were LC and two were Dewey. I assume the "BS" means "Bible Study", similar to how BR is "Bible Religion" and "BT" is "Bible Theology".
