Parental Rights are the rights of the biological parent to have a say in the rearing of a child. Giving up those rights means you lose any input into the child's upbringing.

Custody is a different matter. Custody refers to who the child will live with. Full custody means being a full time parent. A parent can have full custody but allow visitation, even overnight visitiations.

By the way, giving up parental rights does not necessarily mean you no longer have financial responsibility.

Do I have to give my ex full custody in order for her to move abroad with our child. No one has custody now but he lives with her.
