My 8 week old kitten has a lot of discharge coming from his eye. What is the best way to treat it?

How long has this been going on? It helps to know how long there has been discharge. It would also be helpful if you could describe the discharge (its color, is it thick or runny). Any other symptoms? What vaccinations has your cat been given?
