    Name my cat
I have just welcomed a new cat into my home.

    He is declawed and neutered.

He is absolutely wonderful with Rachel. He's fluffy and cute, but I actually can't figure out a name for him, so I need help!

    I have the following:
    -Cox
    -Damien
    -Lucifer
    -Felix
    -Jay

But I'm still not stuck on any name, so help me choose a name for him, whether it's from above or one of your own names.

    Thanks!

I got him from my [this is going to be a long one] friend's mother's friend's daughter. She was getting rid of him and well I needed a pet in my house again.

From the car ride home till last night he was drooling so much. I think maybe it was because he was scared.

Right now he's walking around the house and smelling everything nonstop. I had to give him a bath last night, I couldn't believe how dirty he was. I also brushed him and oh my god so much hair came out:eek: I mean a lot!

I got a rubber brush [supposed to remove shedding hair or something like that] and another one, I'm thinking if I brush him everyday to every other day his shedding will decrease:confused:

Anyway, he's a good ole cat, just sits around and looks out at windows. He's not even interested in the toys I bought him:(

It's spring, and my cats are shedding their winter coats like crazy. Yes, brush him several times a day, but just only as long as he can tolerate it. If you can afford to buy a Furminator, please do so. It is amazing at brushing out dead hairs from the undercoat, and cats love it.

Cats often need you to play with them -- to drag the string along the floor (but don't leave it for them to swallow), to provide an empty paper grocery bag (no handles to choke the cat) or cardboard box to play in, to toss around the catnip mouse or jingle ball.

Does he talk to you yet?

Don't have any suggestions on the name, but you should submit that pic to www.catsthatlooklikehitler.com.

Oh wow! I just went to eBay, and saw some for 5, 10, 12$ plus shipping! I can't wait to get mine. I will post photos. Thanks for letting me know about this amazing thing!

He's still laying around, I tried playing with him but no luck.

Talk to me? Uh well he did meow at me while I was in the kitchen.

He just seems like a big sweetheart.

Did he come with a name? If so, does he respond to it?

If you don't like the name he came with, why not let him tell you his name? Cats are usually really good about telling their humans their names. You'll just look at him and know what you should call him.

Yes, his name was Patches but he doesn't respond to it.

    Lol I'll try that.

He's become more vocal now. Meows at me whenever I see him.

He's not very playful, which makes me feel sad for Rachel, she loves playing with him but he just seems to walk away :(

His name should be Marx. Really.

Patches is about as original as naming a dalmatian, spot. Then again, I have a black and white kitten named spot. Don't know why, the name just stuck.

He may become more playful over time. Do you know how old he is? If he was the only cat, and his humans didn't play with him, for most of his life, then he may not be very playful. Or, you could just need to find the right toy.

Edith ignores the balls with the bells in them. She also ignores the ribbon teaser toy I got, UNLESS it's dangling over her head. Even then, once she catches it once, she loses interest. She likes milk rings, though. She'll pick them up and just carry them from room to room in her mouth. When she's in the right mood, I can get her to chase them around the kitchen floor.

Kuro is that way. He's part Maine Coon and very dignified. If we try to play with him with a thing dangling on a string or with a catnip mouse, he cops this attitude and stares at us as if to say, "You really are kidding, aren't you?"

Sounds like he's trying to tell you his name is "Meow"

Personally if I were you I'd call him "Herbie" ;)

I agree with M, it should be Herbie. :)

Of course I think you, M, Bear and I are the only ones who'll understand why. ;)

    So many good names!

Rachel stuck with Phoenix and he's been responding to it.

    Thanks for the help.

He's still a grump though. He won't play, but he sure does like being petted. He's gotten a lot more comfortable here since he last came. He now climbs on top of the couch, sleeps on my bed, goes to Rachel's room and watches her play... he's not so bad.

I think he's about 3-5 years old -- I really don't know how old he is. The lady told me he was 1 but I know he's a lot older than that [I don't know why she would lie to me]. Is there anyway you can tell how old a cat is? Hmm well I'm bringing him to the vet next Monday to make sure he's healthy.. maybe he can tell me.

The vet can usually give you a pretty accurate age range. He, obviously, won't be able to tell you exactly, but he can give you an idea to within a couple years.
