Yes, they come out with all that fur. The pic in the original post as taken maybe an hour or so after the last one was born.

Tell Alty cat to stop being so scared, she has a reputation as a hard a$$ to protect. ;)

Alty cat, fear nothing, always stand up for yourself. You are kitty, let them hear you roar! :)

Oh, she is VERY vocal. While I wouldn't call it roaring, she certainly can scream when she has something to say.

Yup, we call it the "red" gene. It makes torties in females, and orange cats in males.

Seems I'm late to the party.

THEY ARE SO TINY!! I haven't seen new-born kittens for probably 35-40 years. I like the little tortie as well, but that one should've been Alty. :p (No Morgy's in there, huh? Of course, I've never called myself Morgy.) From an overhead view, Edith looks like my one cat, except he didn't just have kittens.

And WG, you aren't in the wrong room. I'm a shrimp.

    Vocal... yup, that's Alty. :)

So, Heath, have you decided which one you're going to keep?

You probably know which one I'd suggest. ;)

I did mention to R (hubby) that you named one of the kittens Alty-cat. I suggested that we should adopt her since she's named after me and Cat. He laughed so hard that he almost passed out. Stupid allergy man. ;)

Here's the funny part. He loves cats. All of us do. When we go to visit a friend with cats, R is the first person they go to and despite his allergies he always has to pet and cuddle, let them sleep on his lap. Same with our kids. Of course I get to deal with allergy meds, swollen eyes, breathing difficulties, itching and grumpiness. They just won't stop touching!

My brother is allergic to cats, but he'll still pet mine. He's usually OK unless he gets them in his face, but there's one he will pick up anyway -- then goes home sneezing and itching all night. We did always have cats when we were kids. But he was allergic to outdoors so I guess he was used to the problems.

My husband and both kids are allergic. They wheeze if they're even in the same room as a cat but they still can't keep their hands off.

I miss having cats. I've always had cats, love the companionship of a cat. It's not possible with the allergies.

R even did the allergy shots. It didn't work. :(

I'm sadly destined to be a catless household.

I have no idea which ones I'm keeping, yet. I want to keep them all. I can only keep two, though. I guess I'll just have to wait until they're older and see how they pair off. Kittens almost always pair off in even numbered litters.

Alty and Unky seem to have a bond. Hint, hint, hint. :)

Okay, bed time for this pussycat. :)

Cats doesn't think that is a good enough reason to add another mouth to feed to the household.

I think Alty-cat is adorable, but then so are the others. :)

You know... it's probably a good thing that our respective mates said 'no'. If both said 'yes', the international custody agreement would be very interesting. :D

Zoe's eyes are open now. She has the most soulful eyes I've ever seen on a cat. I have to keep her. I just look into her eyes, and she's mine. I can't give her away. I just can't.

Now, I just need to figure out who else I'm keeping. As soon as I think I want to keep one of them, I realize I want to keep one of the other ones, which makes me realize I want to keep someone else. I just can't decide. I love them all.

Keep them all Heath, that's what I would do.

I know, I know, not logical, but it would be the easiest solution. :)

Easy for a couple months, maybe. Then the cost of feeding them and keeping the litter in the litter box would catch up with me.

Alty-cat (she wouldn't hold still. This is the least-blurry pic I got)

Most of them are starting to walk, instead of belly crawl. In a few days, I'm not going to be able to keep them in the nest anymore. It's already almost impossible to get them to hold still for pictures.

    I really like mop!

Are they going to be long haired like the mum?

    :)
  • Apr 15, 2010, 10:06 AM
    hheath541

Edith is basically a shorthair. Her fur's too short to be considered a longhair, but just long enough that shorthair isn't completely accurate.

I think spot and zoe will be longhairs. Several sites I've found say that longhairs take up to twice as long to open their eyes, and both of them were several days behind their siblings.

Mop is a sweetheart. He rarely ever cries, without reason. He's just quiet, and seems thoughtful and inquisitive.

Alty-cat is opinionated. If she doesn't like something, she'll tell you. She doesn't like to be by herself, and always tries to be curled up with as many of her siblings as possible.

Unky is the runt. He gets walked on and stepped on and sat on, and he just takes it. He almost never cries.

Zoe is soulful. She'll talk when she needs to, but mostly she just seems to enjoy looking. She's always looking up. She'll tumble with her siblings, but she'll also just sit and watch everything around her. (I'm keeping zoe)

Aura is loud. If she has something to say, everyone is going to hear it, and she often has something to say. She seems to be trying to declare herself queen of the litter.

Spot is trouble. He's already climbed out of the next a few times. He's always going somewhere or picking on someone, even his mommy. He likes to play and explore.
