Still like Spot.
I have scratches all over my legs, and some on my arms and shoulders, that prove they already CAN fight back. Some of the scratches may even be added to my collection of scars.
I heard only females were tortoise shelled, any truth to that?
Yup, Bella, that's true.
Calicos and Torties are almost always female. It's a recessive gene that's attached only to the X chromosome. Black and orange colors are attached to the x chromosome, so in order to get a cat that is BOTH black and orange, you need two X chromosomes. In order for a male to be a tortie or calico, he'd need to be a genetic mutant--with XXY chromosomes. VERY rare.
Likewise, most orange cats are male--not the same rareness to have an orange female, but it isn't THAT common either. Something like 75%-80% of orange cats are male.
Nice biology lesson Synn :) It's good to learn things like that on here!
They're growing even bigger still hheath! :)
And Spot keeps the lead.
Unky's dancin' :p
Had a cat that was most likely XXY. He ended up getting spayed AND neutered. He was one of the sweetest cats I've ever met, but not very smart. We figured that he probably had the feline equivalent of down's syndrome. The vet agreed, but said that there was no way to tell for sure, since there was no research into the matter.
He would have been sterile, as well, if he had the XXY chromosome.
But yes, that would be the cat version of Down's Syndrome
Most likely, but we didn't want to take any chances. He had one testicle, and one that wasn't formed enough to drop. He also had one ovary and a half-formed uterus. He also had the penis and vagina to go along with them.
He was the product of a brother-sister pairing from the same litter. Even the vet had sexed them both as boys, then one of the 'boys' got pregnant. Only 2 of the 4 kittens had any issues, and they weren't major. The little hermaphrodite and his brother who had 3 testicles and claws that didn't completely retract.
You could make a movie of that and call it, oh say, Junior.
Alty-cat is just ever so slightly cross-eyed. I just noticed today. It just makes her cuter.
It's still Monday in SOME parts of the words, so I think this still counts.

YYYAAAAYYYY! I've been waiting and checking FB!! Where is everyone else?? YYYAAAYYY!! I was too eager! There they are!!
They're not kittens anymore. They're little cats!
Where did the time go?
I don't know. I just realized that they're almost 3 months old, and I'll need to have at least the boys fixed by 4 months to prevent more kittens.
I posted a bunch of pictures on Facebook, today.
