This weekend I'm going to the beach to find more driftwood and rocks. They really like playing on them and chewing on the driftwood. For some reason, they lick the rocks. Haven't figured that out yet, but some of them seem to taste better than others.

It might be the fishy taste on the rocks. Little crabs or clams probably crawled around on them. Yum!

around here, the beach means lake erie. We don't have crabs or clams in the lake. There were tons of lady bugs when I went there last week, though.

I think they're just weird and like to lick rocks ^_^

Awwww, poor Alty-cat being bullied :(

I saw you point that laser dot onto edith and one of the other kittens, trying to get Alty to pounce on them, and don't pretend you wernt ;)

I grew up two miles south of Lake Ontario. There were always clam bakes on the beach during the summer. We had to be careful we didn't cut our bare feet on broken clam shells. Finally the state park people started raking and cleaning up the sand in the morning. (That was back in the day when pop can tabs came off completely and were tossed everywhere.) And we caught weird shelled creatures when we could find them. There were lots of fish too, so maybe the rocks you pick up taste like fish.

Click on the two Tumble Times links on hheath's earlier posts. You'll get YouTube videos of the kittens playing (and Alty-cat being attacked by siblings).

For the part few days, the kittens have decided that they prefer to sleep under the loveseat. It upsets edith, because she doesn't fit. She walks around making pathetic mommy-lost-her-babies noises and looking at me like I should crawl under there after them.

The Terrible Twos and the Search for Independence apparently strike kittens at four weeks.

I had a dream about Alty-cat the other day.

I had convinced hubby and the kids that sneezing and puffy eyes isn't a good enough reason not to get Alty-cat, so we drove to you and picked her up.

The dream was going well until we got home and Alty-cat turned into a gremlin and destroyed my house.

I'm not eating chocolate before bed anymore. :(

I talked with my husband last night and told him hheath had named four really cute kittens after him and, when he drives there to pick them up around July 6th (his birthday), she plans to have a small birthday party in his honor with whipped cream cake (his favorite).

You just gave me an idea WG.

Hubby's birthday is July 3. I think a kitten would be the perfect gift.

    Alty-cat, here I come! :)

WG, since we'll be in the same area at around the same time, we should do lunch, with the kittens. :)

You said I could have Alty-cat. Remember your allergies. *ah choo*

Can you imagine lunch in a restaurant with those kittens in tow?

how about turning lunch into a picnic on the beach with 7 cats on leashes? They could lick all the rocks on the beach without having to wait for me to bring them home ^_^

it's not going to be alty-cat who's the gremlin, it's going to be unky. He's developed a fascination with cords. Chewing on them and standing on them so they unplug. Right now, chewing on them isn't doing much, but I don't want it turning into a habit. I'm really worried that he'll unplug something and get electrocuted.

any idea how to teach a nearly 5 week old kitten that cords are bad?

Thers a liquid that parents put on their child's finger nails to stop them biting them as it tastes really really bad, maybe you would spread some on your cables (I don't recal that it smells and I'm pretty sure your not going to bite them, about 68%sure) so no down side to you, and it might get unky to stop biting those cables :)

That's a thought. I used nail polish remover to stop biting my nails when I was younger. Do you think that would hurt my cord any? I know it dissolves fake nails. I don't, exactly, want to take the risk of dissolving my computer cord.

    I'm not sure, :o

I just remember my parents using this special 'stop-you-biting-your-nails' stuff when I was younger. Not sure what it was made of though,

Perhaps you could try giving unky something else to bite and to play with.. It is known that when teeth grow, it relieves to bite something... maybe that's what's happening. A 'rubber toy' big enough so that it doesn't swallow it.

Do not use fingernail polish remover on anything plastic. Especially if it has acetone in it.

I like Grannick's Bitter Apple spray as chewing deterrent. It is one of several chewing deterrent products on the market made for cats and dogs.
