I have a 2004, F250 XLT, 4x4 with a 6.0 litter. This was a used truck with 58324 miles. I paid for the truck on 14 DEC 06. The first owner had to fix the Fuel injector control modular wiring harness, Exhaust pressure sensor, Replace PCA solenoid. The following problems have accrued sense I have had the truck
1. 4 APR 0768,329 miles Trans was slipping: Rebuilt transmission
2. 30 AUG 07/93,807 miles Truck was smoking and loss of Coolant/Power: Replaced EBP sensor and EGR valve
3. 01 OCT 07/97179 miles Losing Coolant/Running Hot: Replaced Oil Cooler, EGR Cooler, water tank and cap
4. 12 OCT 07/97,445 miles Truck will not start: Replaced both Head gaskets, EGR Cooler
5. 05 NOV 07/99,753 Truck will not start: Replaced starter
6. 15 APR 08/114,846 miles Truck blew black smoke/and runs bad: Replaced EBP sensor and Connector, FICM (main computer).
7. 08 MAY 08/114,974 Engine Runs Rough and skips: Replaced 3,5,7 injectors
8. 22 JUL 08/122,378 Truck blew oil up through the cooler tank and is currently back in the shop at this time. EGR cooler must be replaced and is currently checking to see if head gasket is blowen.
I keep good maintenance on this truck and the previous owner took good care of this truck. This 6.0 engine is a 2003 model. This is not a good engine. I use this truck to pull and install aluminum ramps/steps and decks for my business. I do not overload the truck, but I have found, when I work the truck for days pulling loads the truck will break.
I am currently in round 10 with FORD in trying to replace this engine. FORD DOES NOT CARE!!!!!!!!!!to help. Do not buy a FORD, because they do not care about YOU.
Stay with 7.3. the 6l is known for blowing cam sensors and all other sorts of things. My father and I both own a 7.3 his has 435,000 miles on it and still runs like a raped ape.

I have had good luck avoiding this problem with a product called "Hot Shot's Secret" by Lubrication Specialties.
Also I have used Blue Diamond Oil with the bypass filter and have had no performance issues to date.
Plenty or Power and Pull :)
Hope this helps!
I understand where you are coming from but I have maintained my 2004 6.0 110%. Tire rotation, oil changes, coolant flushes, transmission services etc. However, despite my good maintenance practice, at 36,378 I had the transmission replaced, 36,385 I had the Y-Plate replace, the rearend repaired at 59,000 and now the engine is shot at just over 63,000. Blown head gaskets. All of this and all I pull is a 7,000lb travel trailer three times a year 72 miles round trip. That's it. After reading about the 6.0 on several forums, I have concluded that you got one of the only good ones. Truth it, when mine isn't in the shop, it runs like a champ. I wish you continued success with your truck.Quote:
