Nice to see you around Clough, hope you are having a nice summer!!

Thanks for the comment, startover22! I hope that you are having a nice summer, also! I haven't been around the site very much in recent weeks because I have a number of projects to complete for others and I keep getting knocked off the Internet because of the new phone service that I have. Am thinking of getting rid of my ads in the Yellow Pages and using the money spent on them for a faster Internet connection because most of my business comes from the ads that I have placed on the Internet.

On a card my daughter sent to me...

barn's burnt down...now I can see the moon. (masahide)

The card is simple, black with scratchy white writing... sort of refreshing thinking we can have this kind of positive outlook in the face of adversity. Difficult but not impossible. The card made me laugh so it accomplished what my daughter wanted, to give me a smile and lift my spirit!!

You have been spying on me again, Jan! Yeah, things being out of the way for even accidental reasons can cause us to maybe see things that we couldn't see previously because we were so taken up with the things that were right in our way of vision.

    I hope that made sense!

I have memories - but only a fool stores his past in the future. ~David Gerrold

The living moment is everything. ~D.H. Lawrence

Forever is composed of nows. ~Emily inson

Finish each day and be done with it. You have done what you could; some blunders and absurdities have crept in; forget them as soon as you can. Tomorrow is a new day; you shall begin it serenely and with too high a spirit to be encumbered with your old nonsense. ~Ralph Waldo Emerson

The future is no place to place your better days. ~Dave Matthews

God made the world round so we would never be able to see too far down the road. ~Isak Dinesen

    Life's a journey, not a destination.

Agreed! Might as well make it as pleasant an experience as possible when your car is broken down! It's a matter of choice as to how you view and react to any situation!

"I would rather be ashes than dust! I would rather that my spark should burn out in a brilliant blaze than it should be stifled by dry rot. I would rather be a superb meteor, every atom of me in magnificent glow, than a sleepy and permanent planet. The proper function of man is to live, not to exist. I shall not waste my days in trying to prolong them. I shall use my time."

    Jack London

"A rock pile ceases to be a rock pile
the moment a single man contemplates it,
bearing within him the image of a cathedral."

    Antoine De Saint-Exupery
    French Author, Aviator

All men and women are born, live suffer and die; what distinguishes us one from another is our dreams, whether they be dreams about worldly or unworldly things, and what we do to make them come about... We do not choose to be born. We do not choose our parents. We do not choose our historical epoch, the country of our birth, or the immediate circumstances of our upbringing. We do not, most of us, choose to die; nor do we choose the time and conditions of our death. But within this realm of choicelessness, we do choose how we live.

As commanded, a few of my favorite personal philosophies... used over the years mostly to infuriate my children:

"Nothing says 'I love you' like a twenty dollar bill." - Jerry Beaucaire (my kids actually liked this one)

"I'm an optimistic-pessimist. I expect worst, but I demand the best, so I'm good either way." - Jerry Beaucaire

"You can seldom 'convince' anyone you are right. You have to 'live right' in your own life and let it inspire them to see it on their own." - Jerry Beaucaire

"It is the way it is." - Jerry Beaucaire (and about 7 million other people)

"Listen to what I mean and not what I say and we'll get along swimmingly."
    - Jerry Beaucaire

"Glub, glub" - Jerry Beaucaire (just after the raft flipped)

"Women and computers often are fixed by the same essential troubleshooting concept - if they're acting up, turn them off, wait a minute, then turn them back on." - Jerry Beaucaire

    Dogs

We can judge the heart of a man by his treatment of animals.
    - Immanuel Kant

Until one has loved an animal, a part of one's soul remains un-awakened.
    - Anatole France

Money will buy you a pretty good dog, but it won't buy the wag of his tail.
    - Unknown

My little old dog: A heart-beat at my feet.
    - Edith Wharton

There never yet has been a dog

    Who learned to double cross,

Nor catered to you when you won

Then dropped you when you lost.

    - Mary Hale

    Cats

Cats were put into the world to disprove the dogma that all things were created to serve man.
    - Paul Gray

Dogs come when they're called; cats take a message and get back to you.
    - Mary Bly

In order to keep a true perspective of one's importance, everyone should have a dog that will worship him and a cat that will ignore him.

    - Dereke Bruce

    LOL! Nice.

But... what happens when you have a cat that thinks he's a dog?

Lol... I have one, have had him for about 12 years... goes on walks with me and my other 2 dogs. People get the biggest kick out of seeing him trotting along behind us. He goes to a certain spot hides under the bushes... problem is he waits for me at that spot and I have to go back and get him. He is one smart cat.

Mine actually likes his leash... weird... I know...

Loves his belly rubbed, follows me around, plays in the tub (loves the shower), and pants. He's not normal. :)

I love him though! He's my little Wookie.

My neighbors have their cats on leashes... As long as they accept it,I think it is great and see more and more people that are using leashes.

However my cat was a stray as all of them are ( I have 4)and I let them live the life they were accustomed to they come and go as they please... odd thing is they accept my home and yard as theirs and rarely wander from it. I have one that is my princess she mostly stays curled up on my computer desk.. She really looks down on the dogs, blocks my vision of the screen and lays on my paper work... but what can you do.

    I'm only a cat,
And I stay in my place...

    I'm only a cat,

"You can say any fool thing to a dog, and the dog will give you this look that says, `My God, you're RIGHT! I NEVER would've thought of that!'" - Dave Barry

"The more people I meet the more I like my dog." - Unknown

    You can't buy loyalty,they say,
I bought it though, the other day
You can't buy friendships, tried and true
Well just the same,I bought that too.
I made my bid and on spot
Brought love and faith and a whole job lot
    Of happiness,so all in all
The purchase price was pretty small
I bought a single trusting heart,
That gave devotion from the start

A few more my wife reminded me of this afternoon:

"A friend is something you are, not something you have." - Jerry Beaucaire

"Character is what you do when no one is looking." - JB (said it my whole life, but I know someone famous had to have said it first.)

"Fair doesn't mean getting what you wanted or worked for, fair means getting what you actually earned." - JB

"Even if you think the answer is 'no', then you might as well ask anyway." - JB (mostly a philosophy used in bartering in stores for discounts. I'm shocked at how many times I get a 'yes' in places that you wouldn't think barter/negotiate prices.)

A couple of stolen ones I used over the years:

"Its easier to get forgiveness than permission."

Have a great week, I am off in the morning for a cool vacation. I am driving the truck and trailer with my four babies 6 hours away to see family that I love and miss terribly. I told my daughter that, I will be crying at the beginning (because I get to see everyone) in the middle (because I know the end of our trip is near, and at the end (because it's over)

I can't wait... so while I am gone you guys behave and have lot's of quotes for me to read, I enjoy this thread so much!
