It is in the random, little acts of kindness that true character is revealed. If you want to know about a person, watch how they act when things need to be done. Through their willingness to give without guarantee of return, you will observe the depth of their character.

"Smooth roads never make good drivers. Smooth seas never makegood sailors. Clear skies never make good pilots. A problem free life never makes a strong and good person. Have a tough but winning day ahead! Be strong enough to accept the challenges of life. Do not ask life, 'Why me?' instead say,'Try me'."

Since I only have 9 days left at my company, I'm trying to write extra articles for the files... just in case they don't hire another writer in the near future to replace me! :) One of the articles I'm writing today is about Thankfulness - its slated for the October/November issue. A few Thankfulness quotes I've run across in my studies:

"It isn't what you have in your pocket that makes you thankful, but what you have in your heart."

“Some people are always grumbling because roses have thorns; I am thankful that thorns have roses.”

“The unthankful heart discovers no mercies; but the thankful heart will find, in every hour, some heavenly blessings.”

Whenever I hear one of these it reminds me of the sweet HC :)

If music be the food of love, play on,
Give me excess of it; that surfeiting,
The appetite may sicken, and so die.

    Shakespeares - Twelfth Night Act 1, scene 1, 1–3

There you go, HC! Those are definitely cool quotes! :) I especially like the second one. It reminds me, that through the adversities and challenges of life, that there can be a light at the end of the tunnel. And, part of the way that we get to that light, is believing that it is there! It all depends on a person's attitude and perspective as to what they choose to think and believe. ~ Clough

Today, my last day in the office, I've decided to dedicate a little Shakespeare... :)

Its curtains on this job... its been a wild show...

    All the world's a stage,
    And all the men and women merely players;
They have their exits and their entrances,
And one man in his time plays many parts,
    His acts being seven ages.

As You Like It Act 2, scene 7, 139–143

    Nice Friend... very nice.
I have to share one... I started a board at work, so every morning I work I put one quote up. I have Tuesday off, I went in on Wed and this is what it said...
"A face without freckles is like a nights sky without stars." Love it... ;)

I am always telling my little ones when they point out a freckle on their arm or on my face and ask what is that... I whisper to them softly, "It is where the angels kissed you!" (or me)

This week my daughter took my grandson, age three to NYC for a few days. A man on the subway had what was probably age spots as he was quite old. My grandson first asked what that was then my grandson said quietly, "It's where the angels kissed you!" Another older lady who had marks on her face broke out in a smile that would have lit up Manhattan!

I love your little tales, I love how they are so close to you and I believe that lady could have lit up Manhattan! Those are your grandkids... :):):)

    Still one of my faves...

If you can't stand for something, you will fall for nothing"
At least that is the way I remember it;)

Or is it...."if you don't stand for something , you will fall for anything?" Whatever it is, it is so true, and I love it... lol

Friend, I tried "Rate this Answer" but said I had to spread the rep first also. Seems you have become one of my angels on this site. About the time I need your comments or posts, there you are. Thank you!

Thank you to all of you. I guess God thinks I need lots of angels lately and His provision is terrific. :p Thank you for being willing participants!

It's true that we don't know what we've got until we lose it, but it's also true that we don't know what we've been missing until it arrives.

Never take life seriously. Nobody gets out alive anyway.

When I die, I want to go peacefully like my Grandfather did, in his sleep -- not screaming, like the passengers in his car.

If Barbie is so popular, why do you have to buy her friends?

The greatest pleasure in life is doing what people say you cannot do.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. It's just that yours is stupid.

How Many Roads Must A Man Walk Down Before He Admits Hes lost?

There are three sides of an argument -- your side, my side and the right side.

Always remember you're unique, just like everyone else.

Hope these make you smile. :)

    Well since you all liked those so much, here are some more;

There are worse things in life than death. Have you ever spent an evening with an insurance salesman?

In God we trust; all others must pay cash.

Everyone has photographic memory; some just don't have the film.

There is a fine line between fishing and just standing on the shore like an idiot.

The road to success is always under construction.

If love is blind, why is lingerie so popular?

When you are courting a nice girl an hour seems like a second. When you sit on a red-hot cinder a second seems like an hour. That's relativity. - Albert Einstein

A computer once beat me at chess, but it was no match for me at kick boxing.

I knew today would come... *sigh*...

Adieu! I have too grieved a heart to take a tedious leave. ~William Shakespeare

I wanted a perfect ending. Now I've learned, the hard way, that some poems don't rhyme, and some stories don't have a clear beginning, middle, and end. Life is about not knowing, having to change, taking the moment and making the best of it, without knowing what's going to happen next. ~Gilda Radner

Don't cry because it's over. Smile because it happened. ~Theodor Seuss Geisel, attributed

    Awww... I needed that.

Something that I've known was going to happen for a while happened. It was right, the "best thing", the "good thing"... but that doesn't mean it doesn't hurt a wee bit. :)

(This is one of those partitioned off parts of the heart that I've talked about before... and actually what helped me find AMHD... )

    In that case...

How do I say goodbye to what we had?
The good times that made us laugh
    Outweigh the bad.

I thought we'd get to see forever
    But forever's gone away
It's so hard to say goodbye to yesterday.

I don't know where this road
    Is going to lead
All I know is where we've been
    And what we've been through.

If we get to see tomorrow
I hope it's worth all the wait
It's so hard to say goodbye to yesterday.

And I'll take with me the memories
To be my sunshine after the rain
It's so hard to say goodbye to yesterday.

And I'll take with me the memories
To be my sunshine after the rain
It's so hard to say goodbye to yesterday.

Sneezy, Darling... I'm saving the crying until after work... don't be so nice! :)

Really though... it was time. It was right. C'est le vie. I am honestly and truly able to "smile because it happened." Losing a true, REAL friend is like losing a part of you. That's all. But it was right.

HC, if you need to talk about it we're here. You can PM, you can email, or you can let it all out here on the boards. You know that we're here for you, and we love you so much. I hope your day gets better, and that you find your smile.

It's a situation that I got myself into - its what brought me to AMHD (and for that I'm glad) - that could have been awful... but in my perpetual-Barbie-girl-optimist way, it avoided its potential landslide capabilities and turned into one of the most amazing friendships I've ever experienced...

But today, I had to say goodbye. I'm truly smiling because it happened, but aching because its gone. But it was right and for the best and nothing can convince me of anything different.

Losing a friend is terribly hard, but when it's the right thing to do, it makes it logical, but doesn't stop the hurt.
