"The Bet" is a short story by Anton Cheknov, The banker had given a party 15 years ago. At the party were smart, well-educated men who disagreed about capital punishment and life imprisonment. Most seemed to believe life imprisonment was to be preferred, especially by Christian countries who believe in the Bible. The death penalty means to kill someone, and God tells us in His commandments not to kill. Life imprisonment would be the kinder way to punish criminals. Banker argued that capital punishment is more humane than life imprisonment, while the young lawyer disagreed, insisting that he would choose life in prison rather than death. The banker, a spoiled and pampered man, is very nervous and gets himself carried away by excitement at the time he makes a bet with the lawyer.
I AM STLL WRITTING ON IT AS I HAVE TO WRITE 200 WORDS
