That's good! Please remember that you don't have to be on those things forever. I was for at least a few years. Then things got straightened around in the chemicals, or whatever in my brain. Have been free of taking anything for a number of years. But now, am feeling that I do need to be on something like or similar to what I was taking before.

Thanks for asking. My rib is out again so having problems but it will be okay. I go Wednesday and after a few times of getting it put back in place, it will hold. Just makes it hard breathing or moving for now. It will pass!

I am starting a new commission piece. I needed to know what the old type of asbestos siding looked like up close. I stopped at a house to ask permission to photograph a section of the out side wall. The lady opened her door about there inches to let me explain. She gave permission. Ok, started to take the pic with my digital camera and no power. So I explained that and asked if I could come back tomorrow. She said yes so hopefully all will work out to do so. I am needing to know what sea shells are local to Long Island. Do you know?

I don't know. But, I bet Wondergirl would because she is a librarian. I will let her know about your question. Is this commissioned piece about a house that you will have to just imagine or is it concerning an existing home?

It is an existing bungalow. A gentleman had a Florida Beach House I did which I called, "Florida-Get-Away", you may have seen it on my web site. He was raised in a bungalow in New York and has a family home (ancestral) in Ireland. His lady in his life commissioned me to do the Florida home a year ago and now wants me to do the bungalow but does not have photo of how it was as her friend would want it done, with the original siding, original railing, wants me to take out all all structures around it in the photo for the drawing and wants no plants that are in the photo because all they had when he lived there were seashells in the front. It will come together. Just need to get my research done first. The Florida house took I think 47 hours to draw. The front of the drive was concrete the other part was crushed seashells. Everything in the home is white, everything! I can't remember how how many window panes I did but I think it was 152. I would have to look it up. This piece won't take as long.

I'm sure I can research on line and find local shells. As I told the lady, it won't be the focal point of the piece but just want to get it right. Part of that perfectionism some of us artists have you were talking about the other day! LOL But with me, it is basically just with my art.

Thanks so much for the information. We found lots of sand dollars in California when we lived there. Some shells called "Olives" in Florida. That may just be local terminology, (not sure) when we visited my sister there. The gal told me they are pretty much the same as in Florida. She just returned from a two week trip there. She mentioned polished glass pieces in New York but that would not translate when working in black and white.

Yes, the drawings are sprayed with a sealer once completed. Let dry 24 hours. Then I take them to the printer and have the original scanned. He makes a .jpg file and a .tif file for him to use then matt and frame.

The prints I have printed are Giclee prints which is a process closest to the original you can get. The ink is archival ink and paper, always acid free. :) The prints also must be sealed to protect them. Once they are matted and framed, good for years and years!

So basically, your giving the original to the customer and then keeping one or two copies in various formats for yourself? Correct?

The agreement I make with the person commissioning the piece is that if, upon completion, they are not satisfied with the piece, they owe nothing, I retain the piece. If they like it and purchase it, I retain the copyright on each piece although would sell the copyright to one piece if it was really important to a person that no copies ever be made. When I have it scanned, I always have one 8x10 black and white printed and one 8x10 sepia printed. At any given time, I can order any size I want even up to the size of my living room floor!! I can have my prints on paper or on canvas. Later, when I am needing more cards of several pieces printed, I e-mail my order and usually order around 80 cards. I have one line of my cards in a local store. I do bookmarks also but they are costly because you have to have them printed, then take them to have them (I am blank right now, plastic seal over them, then use a cutter.) If you have the store cut them, it is a dollar per cut. I use their cutter at no cost and do it myself. Last time when they watched me, they wanted to hire me to do them for the store. One of those perfectionism things they liked. LOL

It is a spray flat sealer... has no effect whatsoever on the piece, other than protecting it. There is one sealer for canvas that takes longer to dry and one for paper that takes less time.

I have the pieces online and the copyright is on each page. The exchange is done by verbal agreement. I have not received commissions online except for one and that person eventually came to my home to discuss what he and his wife wanted. If I took a commission piece to do the business end of it strictly online, I would send an agreement for them to sign so that there was no question. My son-in-law is an attorney. He would write it up for me.

Most of my commissions come from people seeing my art in the shows or friends of friends or as example, my sign instructor. Some relatives but they get awfully good deals! LOL

Going to take a camera into art tomorrow, which is when I will be doing the majority of my work on my studio (coz I have 2 lessons of art, with recess in between, then form class which I can usually get allowed to go do art, then lunch which I can do art in, then clubs which I chose art club)
So 4 lessons, recess and lunch I'm going to work through (fun fun!)
Then I will have fridays art lessons, then that will be my last TEE art lesson, because next year I'm doing art and design (which is art without the essays/exams)

Cal you're a man of my own heart, I used to go to other people's art lessons as well as lunch and break! I'll have to say I really miss it. Went into science for the job security and money and now I realise those don't exist in academic research yay! So don't let anyone tell you other jobs are better on those counts because truefully half the time they're not really.

Here's something new I am trying out... not that difficult to do but I think I could get more creative as I go along.It is just more of a presentation than things I made.All items were bought and I just put them together in a nicer way so someone will have less work when they need to give presents:D
