That must have taken the earth of time to do in pencil!
Hmmmm, can't recall how long that one took me but I'm sure it was more than a week (on and off).Quote:

Yes, it is an awesome drawing, Sean! The detail is amazing! Great art does take time! Thanks for responding, Moparbyfar!
I hope that you don't mind, Moparbyfar. But, I just enhanced the image of your drawing a little bit so that others could appreciate the detail that went into it. If this is not okay, then I can remove this post. Please let me know. Thanks!
Thanks Clough, I should remember to do that next time. Thanks also for the nice feedback guys. I look forward to seeing work from other members on here soon. :) Got anything new to share Clough, or Jrebel, Firm? Anyone? My stuff feels a bit lonely here apart from the lizard and his friends. ;) I understand it's summer where most of you are. Wintry days here. Bbbrrrr!
I need to go out to buy a wood splitter and get cracking on the pile out back. Enjoy your sunshine guys! Bye for now.
I should have checked the index to see if I had posted leaves or not. Sorry if it is a repeat. I use acrylic paint but finish them with Polycrylic clear coat, two coats. I like for them to set in a bowl or pretty dish on a table but do best if in a shadow box. I did a large on in a shadow box. I don't think I have that one scanned.
Ohhh I love this idea! How pretty, oh and in a glass bowl for show! YES!
Hi Startover, I agree, there's lots of amazing and beautiful work here.
***********
Also hi there jrebel and mopar et al,
When sketching, what pencils and paper do you use? You get such a clean finish to your work, whereas mine is always a bit smudged etc. Or maybe the question should be, how do you keep your work so clean?
My heart ached while I was writing this. It is my hope that people understand the plight that so many dogs face, through no fault of their own.
What a puppy knows
Before you click that chain,
I may never be the same.
I'm cute and cuddly,
And sometimes puddly.
Right now I'm small and don't know it all.
Except what my mama told me about my Grandpa.
Here is the mistake his owner did make.
I hope you will not want to do the same, for my sake.
Mistake some might say, he gave that old dog a place to lay
And good food to eat everyday.
Yes mistakes, chained dogs can't greet you at the door,
They can't lie by your feet on the floor.
Their life for you they would trade any day.
How could they, if a chain, is where they must stay.
If that is your intention for me
Just leave me be.
I see a lady that will love me
And tell my grandpa's story.
Dog on a chain
On this chain is my home.
Is this chain where I belong?
My master put me here many years ago.
Just how many, I don't know.
Hes never happy when he visits, I feel so alone.
If it will please him I'll find a new home.
Jumping to greet him only makes him yell.
Sometimes I get a swift kick to the tail.
Where did I fail you, where did I go wrong?
Please tell me, I so want to belong.
Days turn into cold lonely nights.
Nights into days, I'm losing my sight.
My old eyes are yellow and covered in haze.
My muzzle is scattered, with many shades of grays.
But never the less I'd be willing to play
And give you my love the rest of my days.
Open your eyes dear one, awaiting you is a rainbow
Why you had to endure this only your master knows.
Was it to teach?
To many, I can make sure your story will reach.
Now you are free to romp and play
And I believe to come back someday.
Bushg!! These were heart wrenching but beautiful poems. I could sense the tears in your eyes as you wrote these. Breaks my heart but also makes me think of not only the need for treating our animals with love and respect but our little ones and older people as well.
Thank you for sharing what is in your heart through your poetry! Just wonderful!
Thank you and your so right about the helpless people on this earth that need tenderly cared for. My Great grandpa was taken care of by our entire family until his death same with my husbands Grandmother... that is how it should be if at all possible.
I'm weepy tonight my son graduates high school tomorrow... the first.
I remember how I was afraid to let him go on the first day of school, esp given his heatlh problems, but you know everything has worked out beautifully. Yesterday he landed 2 jobs in one day one making 7 dollars a hour and all the free golf he can play (he is over the moon)and the other one pays 19.50 per hour, both part time until college this fall.
It is like sunshine follows him or better he follows it, his smile is like a bright ray.
Oh Bushg, I remember those days when my little ones graduated and life changed. We want it to but then we don't at the same time. You have much to be proud of in your son. He is indeed blessed, especially with you as his mother. You hang in there! I know as you reflect how afraid you were that first day of school for him, you may feel some of the same pangs at this time. Just part of the loving and letting them grow up.Quote:

Just encapsulate the moment and know it will always be your moment to keep and treasure in your heart. I know you are so proud of him. I am proud of him for you! :)
First, I have to say congrats to you and your son! You have done wonderfully with him. He must be so poud! You must be! Free golf and getting paid is a big bonus! ;)Quote:

You are all such sweet and creative and wonderful people, you know that?
Thank you all, I just want anyone that reads this to think about chained dogs even though it is painful and just maybe spread the word when they have a chance. Not everyone realizes that animals have feelings to.
Graduation is over and I did not shed a tear. Then we took him out to his favorite dinner, we had such a good time. It was not as emotional as when the scholarships and awards were given out. Most of the scholarships were given out to honor a relative that had died. No one had dry eyes that day.
Hey Frangi! I normally use Faber-castell lead pencils HB - 8B, depending on the subject. The softer the pencil the easier to smudge - HB hard, 8B very soft. I like to use Fabriano brand paper 50% cotton (hotpress). That was for Jrebel too sorry I forgot to reply to one of her previous posts.Quote:

I think maybe the spraying works better with charcoal though. (Am I making any sense?)
I keep my work clean by firstly spraying the finished piece then if storing I simply place it between 2 pieces of paper in my art folder or sellotape a waxcoated light paper over the work. Just make sure the sellotape is acid-free, and is near the edges. :)
Jrebel those leaves are truly amazing! Ingenious! If I could I would rate you a green dot! Will you settle for a couple of smileys? :) :)
Hello artists,
Beautiful words bG!
I just wanted to let all of you know I haven't abandoned this thread,
I keep reading and most of the time something beautiful is happening on this one that I would rather just read and feel/absorb than post.
Hey Firm, you've started yet another great thread here! Isn't it impressive to see these talents from varying lives come together? Glad to know you're still perusing. Knew you couldn't be far away. :)
Your kind words were enough but I will take "smileys" any day of the week. Thank you so much!! :pQuote:

Thank you!
Yes, this is a self portrait. I did this my senior year in high school. I used charcole, cloths and an eraser.
Oh bEaUtI, that is wonderful. I am so glad you resized. I thought it looked like charcoal. You captured so much in your face. I am very moved by your talent. May we see more?
Did you work from a photograph? How long did the piece take to complete? Thank you so much for sharing this with us!
Interesting lines and shading! :)
You really are a BEAUTIFUL BRUNETTE! :) especially in this portrait. Great talent.
Thank you so much for those lovely comments everyone!
Surprisingly enough, I took this photo from my phone camera and it didn't come out bad at all. This portrait is hanging on my apartment wall.
jrebel7: This took me a couple of months to do. I was so excited with how good it came out. I didn't work from a photo at all. I used a miror and a lamp (to get the shading effects). I will most definitely post some more of my artwork later on today.
I have been drawing since I was a little girl. Actually it runs in the family. I have 3 sisters that can draw equally as good. My mother was the basis for this talent. She would always give my sisters and I paper and a pencil.
Again, thank you everyone!
I love the mirror/lamp for shading effect. Don't know that I would have had the patience for that... glad you did so we could all enjoy it! :pQuote:

Elephant Artist
WOW, I remember our hometown Anabell, she lived at the Alaska Zoo for years. The Alaska Zoo is kind of hokey at least it was when I was a kid and as I grew up I came to appreciate it more. Anyway, Anabell was the elephant that when I was a small child around 3 and 4 I knew who people were talking about when they said her name... I sort of grew up with her and she painted pictures as well. She was a sweet sweet soul. Thanks for sharing! It brought back some great memories!
Jrebel. Wow is all I can say, I expected a few scribbles. Boy was I surprised.
Dude!
That's truly amazing! The suspense was killin' me lol!
Moparbyfar, the car in your avatar ROCKS! I had to let you know...
Heehee
Cheers Start, shame it ain't mine! One of my many dreamcars... '71 Cuda (sigh).
BTW your MACHO avy rocks too! When I look at your location and then the avatar I think "I smell fresh baked bread...NOW GIMME SOME OR ELSE!" :)
Hehe just got to love starts avi, I agree :)
This is sparta!
He there!
I was asked by my daughter and her husband to paint a window they found in their attic. They did not want the window painted, just left as it was found (my daughter likes the distressed look but this just looked old and marked to me) but the window panes painted. LOL They didn't have a clue what they wanted on it. I did this in record time, thinking that they would see it and decide they wanted different colors or subject matter and I would be repainting but to my surprise they loved it and hung it on their wall in their den and have now purchased another house and it hangs in their den (which I also posted a photo of where it hangs). I must admit, it got my creative juices flowing and my son-in-law has now located more windows for me to paint for the art show in the fall. I have a better idea now that I did this one of how I want to do it and more of what I would like to achieve. I have been missing seeing everyone's art so am hoping this will remind you to post more of your work. I miss it much. I am putting my pencil drawing on hold except for commission pieces for now.
Oh, glad so many of you enjoyed the link to the "Elephant Painting". That was amazing!!
Looking forward to seeing more of your art work everyone!! :p
