Must be a busy week for eveyrone. I was trying to get to bed a little early tonight but to no avail. Sounds like you are busy with other things so to everyone, I wish you a good night and hope you get lots accomplished!

I am on DSL and sometimes forget to sign out so it appears I am on the thread when I'm not. I look forward to later art discussions. Good night.

Well, I'm "almost" six foot, also. 5'9", to be exact! :p

Maybe, if I use the "rack" in the dungeon of an old castle, I will get to six feet! :D I should be easy enough to stretch out at my age!

Hey everyone I wanted to show another poem. This one's a bit dark as it's about child abuse but it is one I'm very proud of cause a published poet told me she loved my work when I read it at a poetry read against domestic violence and sexual abuse.

    Darkness

    She's alone again
    Waiting for him
    She wishes for light
    Her safe haven
    She wishes her mother
    Would hear her words
    But she just says
    To stop her lies
Regardless the bruises on her skin and soul
    Say other wise
She hears the creaks on the wooden floor
And his footsteps as he reaches her door
She curls into a tighter ball
As she hears him waiting in the hall
    Now he comes in
    Wearing a grin
Soon she smells his rancid breath
Her nose curls up at the smell
She trembles as she feels his hands
    And hears his drunken laughter
She lets out screams that are not heard
As she tries to escape… but is just hurt
    She feels his fists
    On her delicate skin
Her body she tries to defend
But finds she just wishes it would all end
    He grants her wish
By the end of the night
    He puts an end
To her six year old life
    And the darkness consumes her

    What do you guys think?

It is dark but sometimes life is dark. I worked for Department of Human Services for a few years and know these stories happen more often than most people realize. Anytime you put this much thought into your writing, you have the right to be proud of it. Was this written in free style?

Have any of your poems been published? Is your passion more about writing or painting?

It is a touch of reality. I am sure that many people can identify with it. Child abuse is often something that is dark and held-in secret that can lead to horrible endings.

I would like to see what you might write in a poem about light and hope in a similar situation.

It was free style but I did my best to give it rhythm. I've never had a poem publish but I have won poetry contests and have been to a lot of readings, as I've said before though I plan to publish a book of all my poems. As for my passion... it's writing ^.^. I've wanted to write since I was a little girl in kidnergarten... I decided that after we had to write a little book about pumpkins.

When I was between ages of 9-12 I would write just short stories (every halloween I would have a new story to tell the other kids in my trailer park, the only one they wanted to hear every year was werewolf prince). Now I'm a lover of poetry and novels, I even have my own mini library of 576 books ^.^

I actually haven't written any light poems accept in love. Most of my poems can be summed up in the three catigories I have in my book; society, love, and dark. (truth be told there are more love then anything else and I mean the bad sides of love and good, broken hearts and mended ones)

Well I can't remember any except werewolf prince... cause it was a popular one. It's kind of corny though cause I wrote it when I was 9 *blush* it's half horror and half romance

    Hi Craig!

    Hi BiWi!
I said the other day I would try to post some skulls I had done. They were required in a class - a study in analogous colors. They were done fairly quickly so not much depth to them. Just different.

You know, I just had another idea! (Perish the thought! It's just not possible! ) Maybe now would be a good time to start a new thread about favorite short Halloween stories.

    What does anyone think?

It's not that they couldn't also be posted on this thread in keeping with the integrity of the thread. But, maybe such a thread would also attract others who are writers.

Oh! Those look great jrebel! The colors work so well together! Are those pastels or chalk? From the texture it looks like one of the two. And that's a great idea clough! Cause I wouldn't want to take up a lot of space on this thread. We could present a link on the halloween thread to this one too so people could check this out too.

You might have to put it on two or three posts since there is a limit to the number of characters or words (not sure) that can be in a single post. But, that would be okay.

You could try it on this thread first and see how it goes, because there just seems to be only so many of us on this thread. We would wait for you to finish it so that it is contiguous from one post to the next.

Then, if there is a post started about favorite short Halloween stories, maybe you could post it on there, too!

Jrebel, I envy you I really do T-T I can't blend pastels at all! I do the kind of pastel drawings where you draw with a kind of spot pattern (I don't remember what it's called) the same kind of drawing as Monet used. Here's mine... your so much better then me! And to think mine was done over two class periods! Everyone tells me it's good, but I still think I could have done WORLDS better

No, these were not done with a brush and the glow is just the use of the colors against each other. :)

This is great (Your art piece)! I am not to be envied, especially working in pastels! ;) It has been years and years. After you posted the skull the other day, I had just said I would resize and send so did. I think artists always think they could do better and we can usually see each mistake we have made but only because it is not what we fully intended. I imagine it is the same in music isn't it Craig? I would think each performance, although one might feel satisfied with it can always find ways of improving. That is part of what drives us... trying to improve our technique or working harder to touch lives for good.

Lol it is true. My art teacher said there have been artists who have stayed friends with some of the people they sell their paintings to and these people have been known to just start trying to fix the painting right there in the person's home! I know I REALLY nit pick my replica of "Small Cowper Madonna" and I do the same thing with the music I write too! I still think I could have done better with my pastel though... it was the first one I ever did.

Okay! I'm going to start the new thread. It will be in the writing area? But, that area doesn't get looked at all that much. Maybe I should post it in the Holidays & Observances section. There really isn't very much in there at all. What do y'all think?

Also, what do y'all think about adding Halloween jokes as being included in the thread?

Title could be: "Wanted: Your Favorite Short Halloween Stories and Jokes!"

That sounds great! We should keep it in writing though cause though the section is not looked at much don't forget when someone presses "Answer" then it takes them to pages of all the most recent questions. And the people who do write would look in the writing section before anything else.

Then again holidays would make sense too but I'm not sure how many people would look there. I posted a question about what people do to celebrate Samhain (wiccan term for halloween) and only one person answered.

Some time ago on this thread, I posted an idea about maybe having images of where a person does there art of whatever kind. It could be a room with a comfy couch or chair, a room with a easel in it, a place by a river, field, woods or forest outside where a person might gain inspiration. I wonder if that is ever going to fly here...

I do have some pictures of my living room with two of my three grand pianos in it that I would like to post sometime and also, some pictures of places and instruments that I have played. But, it will take me awhile to find them. Not tonight, though...

So, it looks like the holiday section would be the better choice! If Administration decides to move it to the writing section, (as they have been known to move posts around) then that is there choice.

I think that would be awesome and add an entirely new dynamic to this thread! We could then discuss more in depth and also with examples, as to how a work of art is created!

It would work that way with my refinishing projects and also the thumb piano kits that I make.

    Great suggestion, BiWi!! :D

I remember that suggestion and I have been waiting for you to post. :) I was telling someone about you the other day and your pianos and other instruments. I think it would give a warm touch to the thread. I loved the idea. Seems the thread has hit a bit of a lull and maybe that is why no one responded much but may just be a busy time for some, like Didi, I know she is busy for a few days. My sister is in from Tenn. Craig, why don't you be the first and many will follow your lead. I love the idea! I loved seeing the photo of you with the (virginal) I believe it was called? Just wish it had been larger image. I couldn't see your face! You sort of looked like I thought you might however. It was a nice personal touch! Did you say it was something like a harpsichord or am I not remembering correctly? Forgive if I don't have my facts straight. I believe it was quite late the night I read that! LOL I get a little silly after about 1:30 a.m.
