You all know that I'm notorious for hijacking threads. I go off on a tangent, drag people with me, and before you know it we're entirely off topic.:o
Really, I don't mean to do it, it's just something I do, can't seem to control it.
I really am a bad girl, I have to go to KP's room. ;)
So, because I can't seem to stop, here's a thread where anyone can discuss anything they want. Of course the AMHD rules still apply, no swearing, be nice, etc. etc. but everything else is fair game, after all, it's my thread. ;)
So go ahead, chat away.

I'll swing in "Chit-Chat".
Actually my mom is in the hospital having bleeding evaluated. They did the stomach sample through he nose. Tomorrow the camera to the stomach and maybe a colonosopy. This all started at midnight Sunday night, so mom gets a ride to the hospital by ambulance with me following. They were busy and she was stable, so no real activity happened until 4am. I left the hospital about 6am.
They were supposed to do the camera this morning, but the hospital fed her and they were not supposed to. Just as the gurney arrived she was finishing breakfast. It's not the first time the hospital did this to our family either. They got an earful yesterday.
The bleeding worsened with food, but previous admissions a number of years ago were worse. Then it was blamed on Bextra and Celebrex and divericulitus. Ulcers were in stomach and intestine then.
Not a real fun day.
Although when a hospital nurse was told that my father dropped a pill and he needed another, the nurse said "Pick it up off the floor and give it to him". We won't stand for that kind of treatment anymore.

Not good news. Please keep us posted. I know you are knowledgeable enough to know what's what. As for the comment from the nurse, that would have got my blood pressure up ! My mom and I (she has passed on) went through some rough times at hospitals with her care. It was a horror show when she waited so long for a hip replacement at 92. Only because they got her records mixed up with some other 93 year old !
My thoughts are with you and your mom.

OK great! I have something to chat about. Do you all have this problem?. are there people that you just don't like and you don't know why? You just look at them and something about them just rubs you the wrong way?
I'm weird and I hate that I am like that. 2 people on TV right now that I can't stand and there is no reason for it... they are on American Idol. The first is poor Katie ( is that her name the 16 year old) I don't like her... I don't like the way she looks or acts or something. Isn't that mean? I have to leave the room when she sings.. ha ha. ERRR don't like her. And then Kara... I can't stand her. I don't like her advice either... it is stupid. I know I know.. and I claim to be a christian... tsk tsk. I disgust myself.
So sorry about your Mom Keepitsimple... :( what is up with the medical staff? I'm sick of paying out the nose for treatment by incompetent people. Hope she is doing better.

I think we've all been there Classy. There are just some people that rub you the wrong way and you don't know why.
I usually go with my gut, if I don't like them, there has to be something that I'm picking up on, I just can't figure out what it is. I'm usually right, so trust your gut. :)
FYI, it doesn't make you a bad person, it just makes you human.

Exactly.
In my experience, when I find someone like that and end up having to spend time with them, I generally learn that my first impression was well-founded.

exactly.
in my experience, when i find someone like that and end up having to spend time with them, i generally learn that my first impression was well-founded.
There is the flip side and I have to admit to it. There have been people that I couldn't stand at first, even fought with, hated (that's a word I don't use very often) and then, because of one exchange where we actually agreed to talk to each other, to listen, we became friends.
It's happened here, the most drastic case being Cred (he's been banned now). We hated each other. We fought tooth and nail. He'd call me names, I'd give as good as I got. Then, one day, he PM'd me, and something in his PM hit a chord, but not a bad one. I PM'd back and we both realized that we weren't all that different, that we just didn't agree on a lot of things but that didn't make either of us bad people.
He became a friend.
Of course that's on the internet, it's harder to judge personality on the net. That's one thing I hate about the internet. I often type something, and I type it the way I would say it, but of course I can't express tone of voice, or facial expression or any of the important things when communicating. I often wonder how many times someone gets upset at what I write just because they misunderstood what I said due to the lack of face to face contact.
Still, were it not for the internet I wouldn't know any of you, so bravo for the net. :)

hehe, that's an interesting story, I think.
I spent Sunday afternoon at the beach with friends. We were sitting playing in the sand and standing random things up in it. One of my friends found a section of a telephone pole and stood it up in the sand. It stood there for a few minutes while my other friend was yelling at him that it was going to fall over. It didn't. I sat down. Forgot all about the pole standing up in the sand right behind me. Then they were telling my name and I was staring at them trying to figure out what I'd done. Next thing I know, *smack* pole go boom on my head.

Why the HELL is there a baby magazine coming to work in MY name? I never signed up for one. I've never been pregnant. I've never even seriously thought I WAS pregnant. And yet, my name is on a baby magazine.

I'm a bit worried because my apartment's been cold the part couple days. They can't regulate their body temperature, yet, but they seem to be doing OK. I can't do anything to make it warmer, the downstairs controls the heat.

Anything you can do, aside from mom's body heat, would be too much. I mean heat lamps, those pillows you heat up in the microwave are too much heat. No need to worry, hh, Everything works out. Kitties are born in cold barns and survive. I have a cat who was a barn cat (pickle). She maintained okay when I got her quite young.

It eats batteries. Tells me batteries are dead, when they aren't. Won't work with rechargables at all anymore. Takes forever for the flash to warm up so I can take a picture, even if I'm not using the flash. Basically, it gets on my nerves.

My Paul Brown straightener died on me. Like DIED. I turned it on and he didn't turn on. I was like "No! Wake up". I've had him for about 5 years. I ordered another straightener, an "Avanti". Although, I'm more than a little in love with her. We were supposed to date a few years back, but she let the fact that I'm a girl scare her off. She's marrying my high school sweetheart this October. They're cute together. I did finally get to kiss her last weekend, though.

You know, (and since this is Alty's thread, I'm going there), I traveld down that road a while back, I guess it wasn't for me. I had given (and still do) up all hope on men, and tried my swing at the ladies. It was fun, but something just didn't feel right. several years back I had a pair of size 6 jeans that fit. All the rest of my pants were 11-12. Now, I generally wear a size 8ish.
I actually know my waist measurement. 32. I have a pair of men's bell bottoms that fit perfectly, better than any of my women's jeans.
the small/medium/large tags are about the most unhelpful thing in the world. I have shirts ranging from x-small to large that all fit very well.
OK, this is something that's bothered me for several months now. Has anyone else noticed that women's socks went from being sized 5-9 and 9-11 to being sized 4-10. There's a HUGE difference between a size 4 foot and a size 10 foot. They can NOT wear the same size sock.

Spandex is a privilege, not a right. There should be regulations keeping companies from making spandex past a certain size. Just because it looks good in a size 2, doesn't mean it'll look good in a size 22.

I say if someone wants to humiliate themselves in that way, then let them. It gives the rest of us something to chuckel at. I mean seriously, they HAVE to know better. But I have a feeling they wear them because they're too lazy to find pants that fit, it's too hard to find pants that fit, OR they just don't care anymore.

Well I should not say this but I need to send out all my love to all these big girls.
Ever hear of the saying more cushion for the pushing?
Or that at least they are comfortable in their own skin. They should not be embarrassed.
Some cultures and past history suggests that society actually looked on beauty in a different way then we do today. That being skinny was frowned upon and being over weight actually had better merit.
Many :Many women who are way way over weight have really pretty faces. Some hide behind the weight as a way of coping about something but you know what.
Inside they are like you and me. Although I have to say I am glad I do not have man titties as big as those guys or some girls would expect me to be able to produce milk... hmmm
Anyway, would have a hard time finding a bra... Happy I do not have to worry about that but I know some men that might be better suited to wear a bra. Some really do need it...

I have no problem with someone being overweight. I have a problem with ANYONE squeezing into clothing that obviously doesn't fit. That includes a size 5 wearing size 2 pants.
It's just not attractive. There's being comfortable in your own skin. Then there's knowing how to pick the best clothing for your body type. Too small is NEVER the best choice.
Someone with broad shoulders and a relatively small head should wear v-necks, and NEVER wear turtle necks. Someone with long legs should wear a-line skirts, not pencil skirts.
Clothes that fit always look better than ones that don't.

You know, I don't have anything against overweight people in general (I'm talking VERY obese), but I do have issues with some of their behaviors when they know they are unhealthy. The main issue I have a problem with is when I work and they order these large drinks with extra chocolate and heavy cream. Or when I worked at DQ and There would be overweight couples coming in with their children that are getting round around the center and they order the kid a large blizzard, or a large sundae with extra fudge. I want to tell them, "If it weren't for my job I'd make you get a small, because you have every right to be healthy and your'e not helping yourself, a treat once and a while is fine, but you should love yourself more.". This is because I KNOW how bad it is for them, and I know they know too, and I wonder why they don't care. Especially when they have kids and they set the example for their children. People know how bad it is to be too overweight. I mean like Morbidly obese. Mostly it just makes me sad because you can see what beautiful people they are and I wonder why they won't take better care of themselves.
Although I will blame some of that on America's health care. If they can't afford to go to the doctor, they might not actually know how bad of shape they're in. Most of them have many treatable diseases that they know nothing about. And then they have a heart-attack at age 32.
It's just sad.

I get that a lot. But I'm actually the right size for my height. I'm five foot two and weigh around 110 to 115 pounds. I'm just petite. I eat a LOT too. And whenever my boyfriend comes back he tried to make me eat a bunch of protein-filled-foods (I already do) I think a lof of it has to do with the fact that I walk a lot and I think I have a decent metabolism. I believe that once I hit about 25, possibly have kids, I'm going to want to be more careful with what I eat.

I like women with curves. It doesn't matter if they're size 6 curves or size 14 curves. The rail-thin look is just not attractive.
Now, I know there are some people who are just naturally that skinny. The problem is, there are even more that get that way through drug use and eating disorders.
It's not healthy. Your body needs fat reserves. If for no other reason, then as insulation during cold weather.
I've had people tell me I need to gain weight. I've also had people tell me I need to loose weight. I choose to do neither. I'm fairly thin, but I have a bit of extra fat around my middle and thighs. I like my pooch. I also like the fact that I can get away with wearing some things that just wouldn't look right if I was 20-30 pounds heavier.
My mother's overweight. So is my grandpa. Most of my family is categorized as obese. High blood pressure and high cholesterol also run in my family. My mom has been working on losing weight the past couple years. Developing low-grade hyperthyroidism has made it easier for her.
A friend of mine has hypothyroidism and is taking a dosage of synthroid usually given to people who've had their thyroids removed. She gained a lot of weight before it was diagnosed. She's still working to lose it. She's still absolutely gorgeous. Maybe it's because I've known her since before she gained the weight. Maybe it's because she has a personality that sparkles. Don't know. Don't care. I just know that, even being overweight, she's a beautiful person.

Even if I lost every pound possible and was down to skin and bones, I don't think I would fit into a size 6. I have hips. The kind of hips that used to be referred to as 'birthing hips.' I've come to peace with the fact that I will never be one of those girls. My bone structure just won't allow it.

That's a good thing. My problem is that I can never find a pair of pants that fit me nice and tight. After I wear them once there's extra material around my thighs and my legs because they're just thin. I have chicken legs. So most of the time, I find pants that fit the hips but are too loose and too long, or I find the ones that fit my legs but not my hips and they're the right length. I choose the looser ones. But I have pants ranging in sizes from 0 to 5. they're different brands too.

My family is the same. Fathers side the women are more over weight then the men. On my mothers side it is mix of people that are not and are.
One family member is overly obese and it needs to be addressed because I feel that we are going to lose this family member if things are not changed. It does effect the health of lots of things. Blood pressure though is not just a fat mans disease. There are really skinny people that have high blood pressure too so that is just not a fair statement. Some things just run through families no matter the state of the persons weight.

My problem is finding pants that don't end right at or above my ankles. It's gotten easier with current fashions, though. It's almost impossible for me to find shirts that are actually long sleeved, and don't end 3-4 inches above my wrist. Sometimes I HATE having long limbs.
My family is the same. Fathers side the women are more over weight then the men. On my mothers side it is mix of people that are not and are.

My grandma had high blood pressure. At her heaviest, which was while she was pregnant, she weighed just over 100 lbs. she was 95 lbs when she married my grandpa, and somewhere in the 80 lbs range when she died. She was also a smoker with diabetes who developed heart disease, had a stroke, and had to have her gall bladder removed.
High blood pressure. High cholesterol. Diabetes. Thyroid problems. Arthritis. Hard cartilage. Water on the joints. Obesity. They all run in my family.
I do what I can in the way of preventative measures, now. I familiarize myself with the symptoms. There's really not much else to do.
Some problems, like high blood pressure can be triggered, or get worse, with weight gain. So many problems develop the heavier you get.

They're too smart for their own good. A few of them are already starting to stand a little when they walk. That's not supposed to happen until about 3 weeks. They'll be 2 weeks tomorrow.
Edith is a wonderfully attentive mother, as long as they're in the nest. If one manages to crawl out, she ignores them as they lay on the floor, crying. I have to put them back, or she would just leave them there.

My guess is somewhere between 1 and 2 years. I think this is her first litter, too.
She was obviously a very well cared for pet for most of her life. She's never showed signs of malnutrition and her fur's really thick and glossy. Her manners are impeccable. She has a few faint scars on her ears from fighting, but nothing like you see in most long-term strays.
My guess, is that someone had her and took very good care of her, then had to give her up. Either she ended up somewhere and ran away, or they just put her out on the street. She couldn't have been a stray for more than a few months.

I can see that ONLY if she's getting them their first round of shots. If she rehomes them at 6-8 weeks, like most people do, then she'll spend MAYBE $10, total, for food and litter for ALL of them.
Kittens don't take a lot of special stuff. Their mother feeds them and does everything else for them for the first 3-4 weeks of their lives. For the 4-5 weeks they still get about half their food from their mom.

Kitty, just be there for her. Believe me when I was in Uni, I was stressed to the max. The realization of the amount of money and time I was spending had me in mega turm oil. I second guessed everything I did. I would panic late at night while I was laying in bed.
I would think, I am spending all this time and money what if I don't like what I am going to school for? I ended up dropping the most important classes. I would now do ANYTHING to turn back the clock and continue on with those classes.
I also had this impending feeling of doom in my stomach. I felt like, what if I can't do this? And then my negative thoughts took over, and I lost all confidence in myself. My grades in those classes started slipping, and I took the easy way out and dropped those classes.
Any education in my opinion is better than no education.

It's a natural and common fear.
Does she have a job lined up that'll use her degree? The only way to conquer the fear, is to face it. Once she gets a job that uses her degree, she'll either learn her fears were unfounded or decide that she was right. There's really nothing else to do.
I'm an art major. Even though it's been more than a year since I attended classes, I still think of myself as an art major. I KNOW my chosen career path will be bumpy. Artists do not usually make a lot of money. I also know that there will be times when I wonder why I ever went to college in the first place. But, I love creating things. Even if I end up not always being happy with whatever job I end up with, I know that there's nothing else I could've majored in that I would love more.

does she have a job lined up that'll use her degree? the only way to conquer the fear, is to face it. once she gets a job that uses her degree, she'll either learn her fears were unfounded or decide that she was right. there's really nothing else to do.
Thanks Heath.. I think she's just having some doubts. She already has job offers.. You're an angel... Thanks. I'm going to let her read this. Thanks again.:)

I honestly can not think of one person who does not like you Kit.
Stringer... You always know when I need you... My baby called and she's in a mood. She never crys.. strongest , most independent young lady.
Dry sense of humor sort of like Fr.Chuck (I love Fr. Chuck) he cracks me up. She throws tantrums some times. She said "mommy i miss you and daddy"... I was ready to drive up . She's fine now. Thanks Stringer.. like I said you're just a big old softie with a heart of gold.:)

How could the spinner be a bunny and still be a wheel, hheath541?

OMG Alty, I wish I had known you posted this! I would have been over here days ago talking. But hey, you and enigma wanted to see a picture of me. My Avatar is my pic. Not the best but I took it on my phone a few days ago.

Well, they are magnatized so they spin around the metal track without falling off. Its not really that fun of a toy but it is interesting to watch. I used to love them growing up because as a kid I had no clue how they worked lol.

It spins. This video kind of sucks, but it's the best one I could find. The wheel is supposed to go all the way around the bend and back. I think her's is broken.

I knew how they worked when I was little. I still loved them. I can sit and play with one for hours, if I don't get distracted by something else.

easter is my guess right heath?
Kind of. It was on clearance in the easter aisle at kmart.
I don't celebrate easter, and I don't really get holiday gifts anymore. My mom sends me peeps every year for easter and fuzzy socks for christmas. That's basically it for gifts.

Wow, peeps are nasty and fuzzy socks aren't fun. At least they're warm though right lol

I like peeps. And fuzzy socks make my feet happy.

That's funny. Kind of made me smile. I like toe socks for some reason, guess cause they are more encompassing and don't get all loose. I think peeps are basically squishy sugar (which is what they are) but that totally turns me off for some reason. Not to mention they kill my teeth

I miss owning toe socks. They're good for wearing with flip-flops on those slightly chilly days.
I was unaware they made men's toe socks.

Lol they used to. But honestly all socks are the same if you can find your size and color. So long as they don't have barbi on them with pink and purple hearts I'll wear them lol. Besides, I would never use toe socks with flip flops or where anyone else could see them on me. Its not considered very manly here lol. I'd get beaten up or something.

It's not considered manly anywhere. At least as far as I know.
Then again, it's not considered very 'adult' to wear toe socks. I've had people take issue with the fact that I refuse to wear plain colored socks. Told me that I needed to grow up and I'd never get away with it in a professional setting. Like anyone CARES what socks I'm wearing.
