Hello.
I went to the doctor because while sleeping my arms and hands get numb.
I got a bunch of blood test done.
Everything seems to be normal.
I do go to the gym everyday and work out mainly with machines, as well as take 16 different clases every week.
4 classes of yoga, 4 of ody works, 4 of pilates and 4 of spinning.
Aside that I do 1 hour cardio everyday and weight lifting with machines 2 times a week
When I lay in bed my arms start getting numb from the shoulder up to my hands.
I still do not know why.
Can somebody know the answer?
The only explanation I could think of is maybe my muscles as well as bones are getting heavier since I work out so much.

I hope somebody will give me an explanation because I do get up 2 times in the middle of the night with numbness in arms and hands
Thank you

Bendahan

Well, I wouldn't say your bones are getting heavier, but your muscles probably are. Now the numbness is usually a symptom of a circulation problem, so most likely blood work will not detect anything.

It could be something as simple as a pinched nerve.

It may benefit you to see a chiropractor.

Thank a lot for your quick answer.
I did had a feeling since the beginning that a pinch muscle could be the cause of my problem. But since I am not to medically oriented I thought that I was mistaken.
I will take your advice and go to a chiropractor.

Thanks a lot for your advice

Another thing to consider is the possibility of Sleep Apnea. Limbs going numb is usually an indication not enough oxygen in the blood. With Sleep Apnea, (the kind I have) the airway become obstructed due to the relaxation of the tongue and throat muscles. When, I did the sleep study, my oxygen level in my blood dropped below 80 (I do not know the unit of measurement) which is not good causing me to wake up and my legs to go numb.

It could as simple as carpal tunnel syndrome. If your chiropractor is in the know, he/she will recommend testing for that. Your DC may also offer some stretches: place your hands, palms down, on a flat surface (desktop or tabletop works fine);turn palms inward
(so that fingers are facing back towards your body) and gradually lean back - it stretches open the tunnel in the wrists. Good luck!! :

I have a similar problem with my hands. It only happens when I overwork them. Try cutting back on your exercising and see if it helps. It sounds to me like some tendons are inflamed causing numbness. Also try some otc anti-inflamitories.

I can't believe your Dr. never thought to check for pinched nerves, or muscle spasms or even just excessive tightness in you neck, back or shoulder muscles. Check the simple things first, which in your case are also the most obvious due to your heavy work out schedule.

If you are an older female? I have read this is a symptom of menopause.

Did you take any antibiotics in the past that were of the tetracycline group? I took doxycycline and started getting terrible bone pain when I lay down. It got to the point I couldn't sleep or lay down for more than 2 hours. Now that I am no longer on the antibiotic the bone pain is subsiding but my arms go completely numb and limp when I sleep to the point it wakes me up. When I stand up from be they just dangle like a wet noodle. The funny thing is that when they come back around there is no pins or needle sensation like when you slept on it and cut off the circulation.
