I keep waiting for a rep plan that involves white people, and especially those descended from slave owners, to have to fork over 5 or 10 grand every year for the next twenty years to fund these insane plans. But that won't happen since it would involve those who are guilt ridden having to actually DO something painful to assuage their guilt.

And yet another liberal idea. Let's appoint a person in charge of equity and diversity who is herself an intolerant racist. Great idea!!

Wing was put under probe by the Pentagon on Sept. 17 over tweets which referred to White people as "Karen[s]."
"I'm exhausted with these white folx in these [professional development] sessions," she wrote.
"[T]his lady actually had the CAUdacity to say that black people can be racist too… I had to stop the session and give Karen the BUSINESS… [W]e are not the majority, we don't have power," Wing said in a tweet.
"Caudacity" is a slang term that is used to describe audacity demonstrated by White people.
On another occasion, Wing responded to a user who said, "I am exhausted by 99% of the white men in education and 95% of the white women. Where can I get a break from white nonsense for a while?"

Imagine this scenario .... a Black college educated person with a student loan ,residing in San Fran ,who has over $250,000 deposits in SVB , can count on having the loan forgiven ,the total amount of the deposit reimbursed AND get $5 million ; a lifetime $97,000 income and purchase a $1 home . What a great country !!!

Maybe the San Fran NAACP has a better idea

How long are these claims going to continue for, seeing that slavery was abolished over 150 years ago ?
By the normal scale of measuring, that's over 6 generations having now passed....

If equality and fair treatment is the end goal, why continue to drag up this unsavory part of history, this action just continues the divide that is crippling America.

Completely agree, but it's a two way street and we should all be treated fairly and equally, no race based spacial interest groups or handouts.

But that has little to do with reparations, and especially with the insane proposal from SF.

The first equality to be tackled is equality under the law. That's a battle that has been largely won. The issue of treating each other "fairly and equally" is more a matter of individual hearts. I'm not sure that's a significant problem at this point. Perhaps it is, but it is far down the list of problems which are holding black black progress.

In the religion of woke equality is no longer a desirable outcome. It has been supplanted by equity . Equality provides equal opportunity . The new Marxist goal is ensuring equal results .The irony is that the only way to obtain the egalitarian presumption of the goal is to abandon equality . For government it means that if a policy meant to obtain equality results in unequal outcomes it becomes a discriminatory policy .

Explain to a white laborer from families who were destitute in Europe and arrived in the US in the 20th century how that person will be paying taxes to pay reparations to a Black Stanford U engineer residing in San Francisco who's family arrived here from Africa in the 20th Century . Tell the 1st generation immigrant from Latin America how it is fair for them to pay taxes so that Stanford U grad can be paid reparations.

Chief Justice Roberts in a 2007 SCOTUS decision wrote "The way to stop discrimination on the basis of race is to stop discriminating on the basis of race."

1. The near total disintegration of the black two-parent family which plays a significant role in the next two.
2. Poor educational outcomes in public schools.
3. Black criminal activity, the great majority of which impacts other black individuals.

The wonderful news is that black Americans can solve all three of them with very little need for government or white involvement. The starting point is #1.

Imagine the irony if descendants of John Carruthers Stanly
, Marianne Dragon, Andrew Durnford, Sally Seymore were to receive reparations. (All 4 were free Blacks who owned slaves.)

What is really needed is to free Blacks from the Democrat's plantation of dependency, especially in cities like San Francisco.Chicago and New York .

It's the problem of freedom. In order to be free to succeed, we must also be free to fail. Those who succeed should not be held responsible for those who fail.

Well documented road out of poverty. 1. Graduate from high school. 2. Get a job. 3. Do not have children until you are married.

Over 95% of those who do those three things get out of poverty. So simple, but it does require a person to take responsibility for his/her own actions. Can't just whine and point a finger at others.

lol California entered the union as a free state after the 1850 compromise. 17,000 Californians served in the Union Army during the Civil War out of a total population of less than 400,000.... the highest per capita of any state.

There was some Confederate sympathy and even some slavery in the state. But over all it was pro-Union. If any group has grievances against the state it would be Native Americans

So now that Gavin Newsom sees the price tag , he is back tracking .He says California just doesn't have the budget for reparations. He went from bragging about a $ 97.5 billion surplus to saying the state has a $31.5 billion deficit. That in itself is an outstanding admission.

Anything he does is going to pi$$ off a major constituency.
If he doesn't support reparations then the California Blacks will feel betrayed .
California Repub Assembly Leader James Gallagher said

“It will take an absurd mental gymnastics to require California taxpayers, including new immigrants, low-income workers, and even some African Americans, to pay for a wrong committed by other states more than 150 years ago, but that’s the position Newsom put himself in,”

The emperor chimes in after he made excuses for not proposing them when he could've .

“So, if you ask me theoretically: ‘Are reparations justified?’ The answer is yes,” the former president said in an episode on he and Bruce Springsteen’s new “Renegades: Born in the U.S.A.” podcast that launched on Spotify earlier this week.
“There’s not much question that the wealth of this country, the power of this country was built in significant part — not exclusively, maybe not even the majority of it — but a large portion of it was built on the backs of slaves,” he continued.
“What I saw during my presidency was the politics of white resistance and resentment, the talk of welfare queens and the talk of the undeserving poor and the backlash against affirmative action,” he said, adding that “all that made the prospect of actually proposing any kind of coherent, meaningful reparations program struck me as, politically, not only a non-starter but potentially counterproductive.”

Obama says reparations ‘justified’ | The Hill (https://thehill.com/homenews/administration/540536-obama-says-reparations-are-justified/)

He said "that reparations would be an excuse for some to say 'we've paid our debt' and to avoid the much harder work of enforcing our anti-discrimination laws in employment and housing; the much harder work of making sure that our schools are not separate and unequal; the much harder work of providing job training programs and rehabilitating young men coming out of prison every year; and the much harder work of lifting 37 million Americans of all races out of poverty..."

In case he has not noticed schools are no longer separate but equal. Job training has nothing to do with the reparation issue. Giving a lot of money to youth will not keep them out of prison if they are not required to take responsibility for their actions. How do we distinguish between Blacks born in the United States and African and Caribbean immigrants with no histories of ancestors who were slaves or who lived under Jim Crow ? What about Blacks who came to America not as slaves but as indentured servants ?

Does the emperor's qualify ? His father was an African and his mother's family owned slaves.

Obama's great-great-great-great-grandfather, George Washington Overall, and found that he owned two slaves in Kentucky: a 15-year-old girl and a 25-year-old man. He also found out that Obama's great-great-great-great-great-grandmother, Mary Duvall, also owned a pair of slaves listed in an 1850 census record. They were a 60-year-old man and a 58-year-old woman. In fact, the Duvalls were a wealthy family whose members were descended from a major landowner, Maureen Duvall, whose estate owned at least 18 slaves in the 17th century.

This is the kind of whining that we could do with much less of.

“What I saw during my presidency was the politics of white resistance and resentment, the talk of welfare queens and the talk of the undeserving poor and the backlash against affirmative action,” he said, adding that “all that made the prospect of actually proposing any kind of coherent, meaningful reparations program struck me as, politically, not only a non-starter but potentially counterproductive.”The solution is to go look at the Asians in our midst and do what they do. That, of course, would require some self-discipline and making painful choices, so it will be brushed aside in favor of having someone else make painful sacrifices.

In case he has not noticed schools are no longer separate but equal. They are becoming more separate as the years go by. Many minority children are trapped in low-performing schools due to the will of liberal democrats.

The 2.5 million black Californians will be required to first show that they are descendants of slaves before receiving reparations. That is often difficult to do. Even then you will have the ridiculous situation of some people who are earning hundreds of thousands and even millions of dollars a year applying for reparations. College professors, bank presidents, CEO's, and medical doctors will all be receiving reparations.
