Hello everyone. I'm Bill in Toronto Canada. I've read some good information here. I hope you can help me.

I am installing a floor drain in my basement, and connecting it to my combined system's Main under-floor line. I heard that floor drains must be one meter from the mail line. I presume this is to prevent blow-out/siphon of the trap. (but may be other reasons)

Would it be within the code's intentions to install the drain adjacent to the main line, but run the floor drain connection line parallel to the main for one meter downstream before connecting it to the main?

Thanks in advance for your feedback.

Bill

Hi Bill

As long as the floor drain pipe pitches to 1/4" per foot of pipe to the main drain you should be fine setting the floor drain parallel to the main drain.

What is the main purpose of the floor drain?

connecting it to my combined system's please explain what your combination system includes. Are there any other fixtures in the basement? I can see no problem with the way you wish to connect the drain. Be aware, this will be the lowest point in your system and if you have a blockage downstream from the floor drain every sense that you flush or drain will come out of it. Good luck, Tom
