My husband was just told he has a torn meniscus and has to have surgery. His surgery date is April 2nd. How serious is the operation? What is the recovery time? I am concerned he is sheltering me from the truth...

Hello Tuscany honey! It appears J_9 is working today. Don't know when she will be back but here is something for you to read while waiting for her so you can see what it is about:
MENISCAL REPAIR (http://www.arthroscopy.com/sp05026.htm)
I don't think he is sheltering you from the truth. If he has trust in his doctor, he is probably calm and matter-of-fact about it. You may want to ask your husband if his doctor gave him any paperwork on the procedure regarding what exactly will be done, what to expect, and the recovery time. If you husband doesn't have that, you should suggest to him to get it. Most surgeons do this automatically. If your husband plays "Mr Big Man" about it and says he doesn't need it, tell him the info is for you so that you won't worry and will know what to do to help him in his recovery.

I had this done, it is a simple surgery with an easy recovery. (although he will be in a brace for a few weeks.) My surgeon performed a scope, so there was no real incision or anything.

Thank you so much both of you.
My husband is very loving and worries that I worry too much.
I appreciate your responses!

Thanks Alka, for giving our little Tuscany some calming advice.
Tuscany, I cannot imagine that your husband would be anything but loving to you. Sometimes, you are just too cute and sweet for words. :)
