My sons has black hair and dyed part of it bright red. Not a red from nature. He is in violation of his dress code, so needs to tone it down. Should he use brown dye over it? Is there a product that will wash more of the dye out? It needs to be done immediately.

Hello!

What was used to dye the hair? Was it bleached first? Also, you're talking about a red color--perhaps like a crayon red, or something along those lines?

Also, what dye was used to dye it red in the first place? If it's semi-permanent, it'll wash out on its own, so just wash it out the best you can with shampoo and hot water. You're probably going to want to cover it with brown dye, too, if you can't seem to get all of the color out.

I don't see a problem with you perhaps throwing some brown dye on top of it. It's just very damaging for his hair. Are you trying to achieve another color instead?

Covering it is probably the best idea I could come up with if you're looking for an immediate fix with permanent dye. I don't know of any products that will wash out hair dye either. Especially if it was bleached first, his hair will definitely pick up whatever color you place on it very well.
