Hello:

There's a TV commercial about a car. The dad is teaching his son how to throw a baseball, BUT the guy throws like a girl.. This commercial disturbs me on LOTS of levels, and I'm not sure why...

On the one hand, it's heartwarming to see a dad and his son spending quality time together... Yet, I think he ought to KNOW how to throw a baseball in order to teach it to his son... Now, I don't know if that feeling is anti PC, anti socially progressive ideas, or anti baseball..

Help me out here.

I agree on some level but the ad is showing how the father thinks he's handing something down to his son and teaching him to throw but it mentions handing him down something he can be proud of... meaning the VW of course.

I found it amusing at first as I tried to figure out what was going on. My wife didn't get it and had to ask me to explain to her if the dad was throwing like that so the boy wouldn't feel bad. I do think the ad misses what it's trying to say because I wouldn't compare learning to throw from your father to having him give you a used car.

It's like the other one with guy and his dog, something you can depend on through the years. The car, not the dog.

Hello again,

Right wingers are UNABLE to look BELOW the surface on ANY issue. If a guy is begging, then he's a mooch. They don't look BEYOND that. They don't even know there IS a beyond that. My question calls for looking where right wingers aren't capable of looking...

I had NO idea that I would come to that conclusion because of this question... But, if it squawks like a duck..

Sure you did, leftwingers don't see what we personally do to help others, you just make mistaken assumptions. If we aren't joining you in calling for GOVERNMENT solutions to everything we're cold hearted bastards to you.

In this case I just saw an amusing commercial... and someone that throws a baseball worse than Obama.

I took it as dad may not be the best teacher of throwing a ball, but he knows a good car. Obviously his dad never taught him how to throw a baseball, at least I hope not. TBH, I was hoping the kid would break a window on the car, or put a few dents in it, I mean who stands in front of his new car and throws baseballs to his son. The dufus.

Obama may not be a great pitcher, but he can hit 3 pointers.

Hello tal:

Wouldn't that have been a great punch line? The dad throws like a girl, and the kid throws it back like the Rocket.

And that would be more in line with popular culture where more times that not ,if the dad is around ,he's an idiot who needs life lessons from either his wife or children.

Hello again, tom:

Yes, Hollywood and all that... But, what do YOU think of the commercial?

I think the commercial came from the same popular culture where dufus dads are a big yuck.If I did not know how to throw ,I'd recognize my limitations and enroll the kid in an organized little league where coaches who know how to throw could help him. There are other things we could do together .

It's another attempt to emasculate men - or it means nothing sinister at all. Your pick.

You should be distrubed that VW a german company is advertising vehicles in your market when you are so in need of trecovery and they are using your culture, not german culture, to do it. Do they use that stupid das auto on the end of the ad

I think this is being looked at too deeply. To me, I simply see a commercial... I see nothing political about it.

Hello tom:

why don't you tell us why it disturbs you ?I really don't know...

Ok, yes I do... We've had discussions here about how WRONG it is to tell your children that are NO winners and losers, and EVERYBODY is equal.. The message here is, you TOO can win baseball games (even if you CAN'T throw a ball).

THIS commercial is a continuation of that wrongheaded notion...

I tried but to be honest, it all sounded like backwards noise to me.

Now, ELO has an album with a few songs where they purposefully backmasked wording but it was obvious when the song played that there was something to be heard in reverse. Nonsesne stuff but this is how I spent many hours of my childhood.

Right, Fire On High was the biggest most obvious one and I recall there being one other song from them but that was just too long ago.

I didn't see that either. It's showing the inept father teaching his son to throw while implying that eventually the kid is going to be sorry about learning to throw from him. But at the same time, the father will hand down his "legacy" of the VW and that is something the father and son will both be proud of... unlike throwing the baseball.
