What are the consequences for joyriding in the state of Georgia for a 17 year old? This is his first offense. Never been to court or jail before. Can you tell me the minimum and maximum penalty for joyriding?

Hello meka:
I don't know the specifics of Georgia law, but he'll probably get probation - if even that.

I've never heard of a crime of "joy-riding". So what is the real crime here? Is it driving without a license? Is it car theft? Or what?
Generally, first offences, especially in a minor, will get probation.

In GA there is no "joy riding" there is auto theft,
If this was part of a "gang" activity they will come down harder, and if there was damage to the car it will be worst.
At 17 most courts in GA will try to go to trial as a adult so it is possible you may serve time. Next the where in GA, if it is hick town USA and this car belonged to a important person in the town, it will be a lot worst.
