The licorice lace is 48 inches long & difficult to break into pieces. Sid can mark tha licorice lace by cutting partway through. Then it will be easy to break & share later..
A. There are four people going on the hike. How should sid mark tha licorice so that each person can have a fair share? Draw a picture (making tha drawing at least four inches long) and label one hikers share of tha lace.

Ok. This is a division problem. 48 inches divided equally between the 4 people going on the hike.
Does that help?

Very much so. But I kind of have that part already.. where I'm having trouble wit is part b of this prob..
B. 2 more friends join tha hike. Each wnts a fair share. Add 2 more marks 2 tha lace. & I'm stuck w tha marks I've already made.. sid makes new marks so that tha new marks together w tha old marks make equal size pieces..
Thank U very much 4 taking time 2 hlp..

Well, now it's 6 people sharing the 48 inches. I would make the marks in different colors to show the original sizes, and another color if there were two more hikers.

What fraction of tha licorice will each of tha six hikers get?
C. Well, you've probably guessed what happens nxt! 2 more join tha hike. Poor sid has to remark tha licorice he made for six people w additional mrks. Tha new mrks along w tha old marks must form equal-size pieces to break off & share equally among 8 friends. How should he re-mrk tha lace?
