PLEASE HELP!!! Came across this song one day on iMesh; listed as "Best of Me" by Jeff Buckley. It's not Jeff Buckley, but I can't for the LIFE of me figure out who it is.

Hard to understand the lyrics, but they start something like:

Said good-night all my friends
Yeah you got the best of me
And this nightmare never ends
Well you've got the rest of me

And I hear the hopeless say
Yeah you got the best of me
And I hear the ballrooms say
Yeah you got the best of me

Song is mostly just one man with an acoustic guitar, mostly singing falsetto; also some keyboard sounds; at the beginning someone says something like, "We need you and Mike", or "We need you on mic".

Users of the Polyvinyl Message Boards on the Polyvinyl Records site have also ruled out American Football and One Up Downstairs as the singers of the song. SO WHO SINGS IT?? Someone somewhere must KNOW!

Hmm. Maybe no one knows after all. Well it was worth a shot.

Thanks to those of you who gave it a thought or two. If you haven't yet, feel free I'd still love to know!

I have been searching for that info for the past year as well with no luck. At least I'm not alone and know someone out there feels the frustration too! It's a great song and I hate not knowing who it is.

Best of Me by Bryan Adams on "Best of Me" album.

Best of me has been covered by many artists including:

Peter Andre
5 Star
Ronan Keating
Huey Lewis & the News
Barry Manilow
Mya
Olivia Newton-John
Donny Osmond
Maxi Priest
Cliff Richard
Kenny Rogers

Note: May not be the same song though!

Hope this helps

Not to disappoint you all, but I mistakenly downloaded that song about 3 years ago. I was in search of Nick Drake, and this song came up. When I researched it forever, I finally found a band name. Once I had that information, I found the website and contacted the band. Unfortunately, my computer crashed shortly after that. I have been looking this long for the song. Now, 3 years later, I can't find s**t!

I'm having issues just finding the composer of the song on allmusic.com.

This is ludicrous.

Sorry, but this song that we are all so frustated about is not Jeff Buckley. I once had the contact information for the band who does this song. We had emailed each other several times. I am not making this up! Unfortunately, my computer crashed since then. A lot of people think it may be Buckley because that is how it is downloaded on mp3 sites. Jeff buckley had killed himself long before this song was out. I know that 2pac's estate won't stop releasing his garbage, but Jeff Buckley has no estate. Sorry to you all who might believe that this is a Buckley song.

I am still trying to find it though.

Jeff Buckley DID NOT kill himself.
He went for a swim in the Wolf River and got pulled under by the rip from a passing Barge.
Fact.

Amen. His mother made a point that he is one of the only great singers to die before 30 not due to drugs, alcohol, or suicide. Freaky, the lyrics in "So Real" describe his death:

... we walked around until the moon got full like a plate
The wind blew an invocation and I fell asleep at the gate
And I never stepped on the cracks 'cause I thought I'd hurt my mother
And I couldn't awake from the nightmare that sucked me in and pulled me under
Pulled me under

Oh... that was so real...

& "Nightmares By The Sea"
... I've loved so many times and I've drowned them all.
From their coral graves, they rise up when darkness falls.
With their bones they'll scratch the window, I hear them call,
"don't know what you asked for"
"don't know what you asked for"

All your lovers know why
Nightmares blind their mind's eye.
Your rube is young and handsome,
So new to your bedroom floor,
You know damn well where you'll go.

Stay with me under these waves, tonight.
Be free for once in your life tonight...

& "Grace" (J. Buckley/G. Lucas) Tablature

There's the moon asking to stay
Long enough for the clouds to fly me away
Well it's my time coming, I'm not afraid to die
My fading voice sings of love,
But she cries to the clicking of time
Oh, time

Wait in the fire...

And she weeps on my arm
Walking to the bright lights in sorrow
Oh drink a bit of wine we both might go tomorrow
Oh my love

And the rain is falling and I believe
My time has come
It reminds me of the pain
I might leave
Leave behind

Wait in the fire...

And I feel them drown my name
So easy to know and forget with this kiss
I'm not afraid to go but it goes so slow

He seemed fated.

Dude it so isn't... we've been over this in the thread. If you found tabs on it that say it's by him, it's because someone took a guess.

I Definitely agree. I am a huge jeff buckley fan and could spot a mile away that it was not his voice.
