The previous owner installed a shower into the basement bathroom. I have looked at the plumbing underneath the shower (it sits on a pedestal) but do not see a P-trap and it also drains into the floor drain along with the A/C unit. I am pretty certain that this is not to code and that I basically have an "illegal" shower in my basement. If it is illegal then how do I make it to code without busting the floor up?

Hi Fabfisch

You'll need to check your local codes to be sure, but in most areas you can take a shower and drain it into a properly vented/trapped floor drain much like it sounds like you have there now.

More questions? Let me know, OK?

Yes, you may drain a fixture into a floor drain. The only requirement is that it terminate in a indirect waste. All that means is that the terminal end must end at least 2" above the floor drain. Good luck, Tom
