Hi, I'm wondering if anybody could possibly help me?.

I've been taking the contraceptive pill - Ovranette - for roughly 6 months and up until now my periods were regular and I always new roughly when I would have a period!

However, last month I took the pill every morning as usual for 21 days' and thought within the next few days' I would have a period - but I didn't! Then the seven days' of not taking the pill were over and still, no period. So I began a new strip of pills!. Am I making sense so far?. I'm now into my second week of this strip and for the past few weeks I have been getting pain in my ovaries - more so on the left ovary than the right - but it seems to be evening out and am now getting pain in both! The pain isn't there constantly it's more so when I do anything which includes pressure! It's often a dull ache but can also be quite sharp at times. I've also noticed my boobs being extremely tender in the evenings and right through the night! And they do seem to be growing - but this may be in my head!. I do know that I am NOT pregnant as I've taken three home tests and all have come back negative and I'm taking the contraceptive pill so there's very, very little chance I would be pregnant but I just don't understand why I never had a period when I should have had and these pains I'm getting in my ovaries and my boobs! I've also put on a little weight!

If anyone can help me I'd be so grateful! It is beginning to worry me a little!

Many thanks,

Frankie

What you have described are possible side effects with birth control pills. Some women find changes occur right away, others find they happen over time.

You could always see your gp about it and see what he/she says. They may suggest coming in and having a pregnancy test done in office and possibly an ultrasound as well to rule out any other concerns. For example, an ovarian cyst can cause discomfort and a change in menstrual cycles as well.

Thank you for you reply!.

I did think about a cyst also. What does a change in menstrual cycle mean and how would that affect what I have described?

A change in menstrual cycle could be periods that are different from what is normal for you: heavier, lighter, becoming irregular... having more frequent or less frequent, lasting longer or shorter than usual, skipping periods, periods that stop altogether, etc..

But surely when taking the contraceptive pill I should have had a period within that seven day break? I always did before so it would seem odd if that were to be the reason.
