Hi ,
I have a question regarding my taxes. I am on H4 visa(which is a dependent visa of H1B).
I recently did some online work on a website and they did pay me around $825. Now they sent me a 1099 form. Do I have to file 1099, will there be any kind of problem? I don't have SSN. Help me what should I do...
Thanks
Sa

Yes, you do have to file it and pay taxes. Use your ITIN. However, be aware that working on an H4 visa is not allowed. The IRS usually does not communicate with immigrations, so you might be okay. If immigrations finds out you are working, they will probably revoke your visa status.

When did you enter US? You may be able to file joint return as residents. Both of you will declare your worldwide income including 1099-misc income.
1099-misc income is reported on schedule C or C-EZ and you will also pay SE tax (if you file resident return).
With your joint return you will attach Form W7 (ITIN application).

It has been my experience that the USCIS will NOT revoke a H-4 visa for such a minor violation, especially if you pay the taxes that are required by law.
However, it IS a violation, so it is recommended that you do NOT repeat it.
