Our pipes make a banging noise (just sporadically, even when no water is used anywhere in the house). The sound seems to come from behind the toilet and when we flush it, it stops the banging (most people have the reverse problem). We tried draining everything, but it still does not work.

Do you have a water softener? If so, put the softener on bypass and let me know if the banging goes away.
