View Full Version : Constantly sore vagina

For the past 5 years now I've struggled with 'thrush' almost constantly. Sometimes it is worse than others but at it's worst I suffer from constant soreness which makes it impossible to have intercourse with my boyfriend. I say 'thrush' because I'm not 100% confident that's what it is anymore because tablets, pessaries and natural treatments do not seem to work. I seem to have a particularly severe reaction when my vagina comes into contact with blood (from my period) and semen (which is out of the question and never goes anywhere near me!) and both leave me totally swollen and in agony! This particular episode has been brought on by an extra long period and ever since I have been constantly sore and nothing seems to take the pain away. Doctors don't seem to listen to me and fob me off with creams which sometimes work for a while but then it comes back all over again. I only experience the rare occasion of itching but apart from that it's just mainly the soreness and general feeling of being infected. I've been tested for diabeties which came back negative and thrush which seem to come back negative as well. I'm just at my wits end because of the pain and the worry and when it comes to wanting children it seems as though it'l be near enough an impossible task. Please can anyone offer any help or advice or have been through a similar problem! (I've been tested for all STIs etc as well which have all come back negative)

Hi laurenm91... welcome to AMHD,

Has your gp ever mentioned the possibility of vulvodynia? Here is a support site that you can check out to see if this may be the situation that you are in.

Forum : Vulvodynia Support Group (http://vulvodyniasupport.forumotion.net/)

Have you been to other doctors besides your gp and gyne? This site will give you the names of some clinics in the UK that deal with vaginal and vulva pain.

BSSVD - British Society for the Study of Vulval Disease (http://host.quksdns9.net/~bssvd/)

It's another place to start... hope you are able to get it sorted soon.
