Pay them the 350 dollars and they will not take you to court.

Next you are not "charged" in civil court you are sued for damages. But yes it is common and normal for them ask for a large amount of money, to pay for not the idea but the time of their security, management and just as a punishment to you. It is much cheaper than the fine, court costs and more.

#1 how old are you? No matter what age you are though you shouldn't be charged that much money for $30. Were there any other charges like resisting arrest or anything?

Sorry Braden, that is how it works now adays, considered it legal blackmail, Stores charge a civil penalty for their costs, security, cost of the item, cost of management and so on.

When you consider or compare it against a court fine, court costs and having a record or even paying for an attorney, it is really not that bad. Plus if they had not broke the law, they would not have to be worry about it
