I have naturally Black hair and I have tried to dye it a lighter shade, [brown], many times, but I have been unsuccessful, it always comes out in a red tone but never the brown I want, do you have any ideas on how I can get my black hair to a lighter shade of brown?

Wash it with dish washing liquid, that should help lighten it a bunch. Do this for a few weeks and if you still want to dye it brown then you should succeed. Hope this helps!

Hiya :)
I had the same trouble about 2 years ago, my hair was black and I desperately wanted to go back to a light brown colour, I looked gothical! I put hair dye after hair dye on my hair, and the colour didn't shift at all... I eventually decided to go to a hairdressers, and after 2 hours I walked out of the shop with my perfect hair colour! :) It doesn't come cheap though, I had to have the colour stripped out of my hair, and then a new light brown colour applied afterwards and in all honesty my hair wasn't in the best condition for about a month afterwards. Id say mine cost around 60 pound if I remember right, but hey, it was worth it!! Hope I helped! Xxx
