Hello:
Due to the recent battering, the consensus seems to be, that Obama should move right. But, the consensus is made up of loser Democrats, and arrogant Republicans. They're wrong, of course, but for different reasons.
When the Republicans lost in '08, did they move left? No! As a matter of fact, they moved right. They said they lost because they weren't true to conservative values. So, they set about to purge their party of moderates. And, that's exactly what they did. It worked.
So, why don't you think the Democrats should do that?

Purge ? Is a bit strong I think... Lisa Murkowski just won handily in Alaska. Fiorina and Whitman were very moderate ;and Scott Brown in Mass is about as moderate as they come. RI just elected Lincoln Chafee as Governor . Arizona sent John McCain back to the Senate after a failed primary challenge by JD Hayworth.
But for this discussion I'll accept the premise .
The Republicans lost in 2006-08 because of bad governance and not being true to principles. The Dems on the other hand went doctrinal in the last 2 years and the people rejected their policies .
That I think is the big difference between the electoral thumpings.
Now what will they do ? I hear there is a huge battle being waged ;not only between the forces of Madame Mimi ,but also within the White House itself .
I hear Valerie Jarrett is a true believer ,and David Axlerod is clinging to a more sensible triangulating governing policy ,and the White House is lining up behind them.
My guess is the wild card is Michelle Obama . The President has few advisors he can trust ;but he does trust Michelle and Jarrett.
So I would predict he tacks left over the cliff.

Really, I suppose you think the left wingers making Nancy Pelosi Minority leader when she had a HUGE part in the Democrats losing so many seats would help the Dems? Actually the Republicans are glad they did.. it will HELP us the next election too. Making that witch so prominent only drives more people to the republican side. Adolf Hitler seems like a nice person next to her.
I know the idiots at the Washington COMPost in an editorial actually thought the Dems lost because they weren't left enough...
Gee, isn't that argument equal to cutting off your nose to spite your face?
Obama would have a hard time moving FURTHER left than he has... he really has no choice but to move to the center... there is no way to go much further left than he has.
And wasn't it just two weeks about the blowhard-in-chief called the Republicans enemies that will have to ride in the back of the Bus... at a public speech.
And exactly when did he deserve free Reign to do absolutely anything he wants anyway? Last I noticed he wasn't coronated... and except for the DNC party deciples... he is no Messiah as much as certain lefties may want to believe.
Why SHOULD the Republicans bend over particularly after OBAMA care was rammed down everyone's throats... and after much of it was written behind locked closed doors (Literally) the Republicans were categorically excluded from participating in. Like everything else the last 2 years.
Funny how bipartisan isn't in the Democrats vocabulary any time THEY hold a majority... and any time they are in a minority... its all they can talk about.

I would argue that George Bush went right wing doctrinal, and it too was rejected. Clearly, war, executive power, tax cuts, privatizing SS are ALL right wing objectives... But, he spent too much for your tastes...
Obama, on the other hand, didn't go DOCTRINAL enough. Having said he wouldn't, the first thing he DID was hire a lobbyist. He DIDN'T prosecute the Bush/Cheney war crimes. He DIDN'T close Gitmo. He DIDN'T press for the public option. Clearly, those are ALL left wing principles and objectives that were left on the table... He looks too much like Bush for my tastes.
I predict he tacks right, into the hands of his waiting enemy. I'd LIKE a Russ Feingold.

That's what happens with linear spectrums . The vantage point is from where one views them .

I think he should definitely move left.Hello again, Steve:
Me too. You know the block of people who DIDN'T vote in the midterms?? The ones who voted FOR Obama the first time?? You remember, the ones who put him over the top? The libs?? The youngsters? Remember them? They didn't vote this time, because Obama DIDN'T do lefty stuff. They stayed home. That NON vote allowed Republicans to win, and mistakenly think their sh!t doesn't stink. They're wrong.
IF Obama reclaims that group, he'll win reelection in a cakewalk.
