Winter here isn't too bad -30c is usually the coldest we get. Which is a nice change from when I lived further North and an average winter day was -50c. The main difference is where I am now, we get 4ft of snow on an average snow fall, makes for a loooong winter. Up North, much colder but not as much snow.

-30C converts to -22F. That's the coldest I've ever felt and I thought I'd never live through it. Okay, so I'm exaggerating a little, but not much.
Cat, we are very dry here. When I go to S. California now, it feels so humid to me and I don't care for it. When I lived there for 8 years, I didn't even notice it.

Our weather tends to be like a roller coaster Fall through Spring. Summer is just plain hot and damp whether it rains or not.
I miss snow only because I hate ice when Nature makes it. She has a tendency to put it on the power lines. :(
I have seen some of those ice storms in North Carolina and they are dangerous however very beautiful.

Sometimes it rains here. Sometimes it's cloudy. That about covers most weather in Enlgand. Oh and it's often windy. Saw the sun one day in the 'summer' - distant memory.

Hi kids.
I love fall too. We actually have a pretty long fall most times. The leaves are just starting to change, not really that noticeable yet, but there are a few that have changed color.
It's been a crappy few days here, cool, not 4c, but 10c today, and that was cold enough, especially with the rain. The kids have been bundling up for school.
I always find it amusing how we Canadians adjust to the weather. In spring, when it's finally a plus day, 10 degrees is shorts and t-shirt weather. In fall, 10 degrees means bringing out the coats, socks, and bundling up.
I'm not looking forward to the minuses though. I also am not in any hurry to see snow.
You can't fool us Alty, we all know you love snow ;)

Or cleaning away goodo, decide to head to the shops and catch a glance at your top in the window with two very white dusty marks right on your boobs.
Or heavily pregnant dressed up nice (or so you think) until you see your bloated puffy reflection in a shop window...

ROTFLMAO!
Speaking of the gap, R's sister sent gift certificates for the kids birthdays, I'm grateful, but her choice was Gap and Gymboree. One hundred dollars each, and all they got were a few clothes. It took me an hour to finally decide on an outfit for Sydney. Fifty dollars for a pair of jeans, for an 8 year old? I don't have 50 dollar jeans for crying out loud!
I finally found a few things, Syd got a dress, some leggings and a pair of jeans and the end total was $108 and some change.
Jared got a few t-shirts and a sweater, end total $104!
All I can think about is the fact that I could have bought 10 items of clothing, or more at Walmart, per child. :(

By me they have outlet malls. Its where the major makers of clothing have discount stores. Its rare anything is over $20 u.s. funds. Most is between $5 and $12.

We don't have outlet malls, but you can find good clothing for low prices if you look. We have Giant Tiger, Walmart, Winners, thrift stores, you name it. I could have bought so much with $100 each for the kids, but because they were gift certificates I had to go to the store they were for, Gap and Gymboree.
The dress I bought Syd was regular $49. Thankfully it was on sale, but still, I'm looking at it thinking that it's not worth the money, and I would never spend that kind of money on a dress normally. She wore it to school today, I was in a panic thinking she'd rip it or get it dirty. Hubby said "let her wear it, she needs to get some use out of it considering how much it cost".
The thing that shocked me is the amount of people that were in these two stores buying arm loads of clothes for their kids. One lady came up and told me how adorable Syd's outfit was, and did I buy it at Gymboree (the store we were in). I told her no, I bought it at Walmart and the entire thing, top, jeans, socks and underwear, cost me less than $20. As soon as she heard Walmart she turned up her nose and said "I would never shop there. The clothes are just awful". What? You just told me you liked them! :(
It's sad. They're kids, who cares about fashion when you're 8?
Still, I do appreciate that R's sister sent the gift cards. The clothes are nice, I just hope the kids realize that this isn't something we can afford to do every time they need new clothes.

Exactly.
Sadly most of the "thrift" stores we have are all high quality stuff, Gap, Gymboree, Please Mum. It's still cheaper to buy new at Walmart. I do have a wonderful friend whose daughter is a few years older than Syd. We get a lot of second hand clothes from her. The only bad thing is that this girl is very large (obese) and Syd is a stick. Most of the clothes are stretched out to the point where they fit me!
I sew a lot of the kids clothes, but Jared is getting to that age where homemade stuff isn't cool. He's not a fashionesta, but he does want jeans, shirts that are cool, and I don't have the skills to do that. :(
Syd is easy to please. As long as she's covered she doesn't care. I sew a lot of summer clothes for her, dresses, shorts, the material $3/yard or less at Walmart.
I'm the thrifty mom. I like to get a lot for my dollar, because there aren't a lot of dollars to work with. ;)
I need to win the lottery. :)

good stuff, although it depends on the buyers, some seasons its amazing other seasons its pure crap.
another chain we have here is dunnes stores, cant beat them for value and quality.
its really the same any where you go,you can pay 80 quid for a pair of child's jeans or 6 quid, they get the same wear.
this morning ciara put a hole in a pair of trainers I got for her starting school, now I did pay out for them thinking they would last, but no... in bits after a few wears, waste of money!

Reminds me of "hush puppy" shoes. Those things were uglier than sin, and you couldn't wear them out even if you put them in a fire.
I tried my darndest to break them, dragged them on the floor when riding my bike, but not even a hole.

Totally agree there doula.
A one stage here we were tripping over pups... granted, they were all from local farmers or bred from family pets, but then, lots of people did not know puppy farms were illegal.
Dogs were/are overbreed, and if there was a runt they were shot or drowned.
Still happens today,no matter how easy the shelters make it for people to bring in animals, they just throw them in the river or a bucket of water.
Its tragic,horrific and sadly true.

Hi all.
I just had a giggle and I have to share.
This is how much of a rabbit geek I am. I just got an early birthday email from the "house rabbit society" and from the "Rabbits United forum".
Ya, I'm all about the bunnies.

I'm sorry. I've been busy sleeping and trying to get over whatever the heck has grabbed hold of me. I'm not well.
When I went to pick up the kids today three different people came up to me and asked if I was dying because I look so pale and worn out. Gee, I didn't think I looked that bad. I guess I do. :(
Maybe it's 40itis. Ya, that has to be it.
Enjoy your 20's Bella, soon you'll be in my boat.

That Festoid person has really got me steaming. What a jerk!
Dogs are property to do with as you see fit? If you don't want your dog you should be allowed to drown it in a pond? If a person wants to breed their dog they should be allowed because it's their "property".
Festoid is damn lucky I can't reach through my monitor and have a go at him. I'm so mad I could cry! :(

I doubt he has those credentials, he gave them up too easy. If he does, than it's for money, not love of animals, that's very obvious.
I really wish a pack of wild dogs (released into the wild because that's better than being in a shelter in his opinion) would have a bit of fun with him on a dark night. Oops... was that out loud? ;)
I'm really mad about this. What a low life. I sincerely hope he doesn't have any pets. Can you imagine the life they'd lead? Pee on the carpet and you'll get a bullet in the brain. Oh you bad dog, you ate my slipper, into a bag with rocks and down to the river we go. Naughty pooch, you're pulling on your leash, I will set you loose to fend for yourself, good luck finding food, shelter and getting through the winter. Oh, but that's much better than a shelter where you have food, medical care, training and the possibility of a home.

Everything he said was so closed minded. I swear he is a Michael Vick follower. A lot of his stuff was military oriented, and I just wonder what they were training those animals for... Very interesting to say the least. With his attitude, I would not hesitate to say they were used in fighting or scare tactics.

That's what I was thinking too. Those poor dogs were only commodities, and that's what he seems to think as well. Just "property" to do with as you see fit. Just like a couch, don't like it, throw it out and get a new one. :(
I don't want to let it bother me, but I'm much happier when I can live in my rose colored world and believe that most people are good people that do the right thing. When people like him come to AMHD and bring that darkness, it just makes me remember that there are people like him out there, more than we can handle, more than we can reform, and they're the reason we have the problems we have, with millions of dogs dying every year.
If Starby was here she would have given him a piece of her mind and made him swallow bits of his own. Where's Judy, she really needs to have a go at this guy. Maybe she knows of some laws we can scare him with! ;)

I wish I was one of those people who could rip him a new one. But all I get is hurt. I get mad for a very short period, and then I am just sad. Sad thinking of those dogs. I can't even say I live under rose colored glasses, I know these people are out there, but to interact with one, and to read what he writes, seriously hurts me.
I know I am too sensitive and I take things to heart. I call it passionate. It's people like him who make me hug my dogs a little tighter at night, who make me feel good for what I do, but helpless at the same time. He makes me feel like we are fighting a losing battle.
My heart is literally aching thinking of these dogs. :(

Bella, I have no problem ripping people like him a new one, I am angry, and if I let that anger go that's when I feel the pain. I'd rather be angry than sad. At least I can direct my anger at the person that deserves it. Make sense?
The fact is, there are evil people out there, there are people that treat animals like they're nothing, not feeling, not living, not breathing beings. They are just tools for these people. But, there are also people that do everything they can to make the lives of the animals they touch better. People like you, like most of the people on this site.
Want to sleep better tonight? Look at the dog forums. Count the good and the bad. The good outnumber the bad. Yes, the bad still exists, but bit by bit we're making a difference just by educating people, just by doing what we do, even if we have to yell to do it at times, if even one person listens, it's worth it. It's worth it to fight for what you believe in. You may not always win, but if one person is affected, stops to think and changes their ways, than that's one less person on the bad side.
One at a time Bella. In the meantime, keep doing what you're doing and know that you make a difference in the life of every dog you meet. Hug yours a bit tighter tonight, and know that tomorrow you will save a life, you will make a difference.
Big hugs to you, Lady, Max and little E too. Now I'm going to do a group hug with my dogs, bunnies, bird and I may even let the fish nibble on my fingers.
Should be an interesting picture, me holding back three dogs, trying to prevent them from eating 4 bunnies, all with a bird on my head and my finger in a fish tank. :p

And the mice.
Did I tell you that I'm now bringing them into the garage? Ya, I know. I set up traps in the house because I can't have them in here, they destroy everything, poo on everything, and even though I hate to kill them, they breed like bunnies, and they have to go.
But, the ones in the garage, I can't kill them. Well, apparently the neighbors also have mice, and a litter was born in the bushes between our property. Well Syd comes running inside one day "mommy, mommy, there's a baby mouse outside and it can't really walk, and it keeps falling over and it's so little and you have to help it!"
If you've ever looked into my daughter's eyes you know that I can't say no. After all, she gets her love of all living things from me, so how can I refuse? So I put on rubber gloves, go get the baby (and it's a very young baby mouse, there are two dead ones beside it, so mommy is gone), put it in a bucket with water, food, a blanket for warmth, and tell Syd that's the best I can do. Of course the poor thing dies, but the next day she finds 2 more! I end up bringing them in too.
So R gets back from work, sees the bucket on the table, is about to put it on the ground and I yell "No! Leave it on the table or the dogs will get it". R just stares at me. Who cares if the dogs get the bucket? But there are baby mice in it!
He just starts laughing. He looks at me and says "only you would do this. You do realize we kill the ones in the house, right?" My response "That was your idea, I wanted to trap them humanely and release them. Besides, these aren't in the house, they're in the garage".

I just thought I'd post some of the pictures from Carolyn's wedding. Some of you will remember that Carolyn was my roommate, and first posted on here with a question about her then boyfriend. This is the man she married on Saturday. Carolyn was also the person who came here to tell you about what happened to me last year, and the one who took such good care of me. I've known her for 24 years now. She's a great friend and person.
Carolyn and her sister, the Maid of Honor:

Those 20 days will fly by. Before you know it you'll be a Mrs, not a Miss. :)
This is all bringing back memories. R and I were engaged for 18 months before we got married. I remember the stress of planning, the excitement as it came nearer. I remember running around like crazy the day before, picking up the wine, the cake, making sure everything was paid for and set.
If I can give you any advice, it's this. The day of your wedding, just enjoy. If something is forgotten, it's not needed. If something gets broken, laugh about it. If the love of your life pushes cake in your face when you cut the cake, grab him by the back of the head and shove his face right in it. :)
Take lots of pictures, notice every little thing, but most of all, have fun. You only get married the first time once. ;)

You only get married the first time once. ;)
Good advice. :) There's no way he'll shove cake in my face, though. That's one of the things I love about him - how respectfully he treats me. He'll be all class.

Hate that.
Try thinking about your day backwards, try and remember the details.
Or if there is something bothering you, write it down, make a plan.
Or get up and so some ironing, really puts you into a frame of mind of... anything but that!

Ironing? I can't even remember the last time I ironed something.
I usually read or watch a little TV. I'll be up for 1-2 hours before I get sleepy again.

I visited him a couple of weeks ago and he was the best I've seen him in years. His wife's son and daughter, plus her two young kids, are temporarily living with them. I think maybe he feels needed. He spends a lot of time with the kids. He's also working on the album, as you suggested.
I think he's looking forward to the wedding. He's a little nervous about dancing with me, though. I'll just have to make sure he's had a couple of glasses of champagne first. :D

Someone Like You - Van Morrison
You probably remember I was having a hard time with the Father/Daughter dance song, which I'm dancing partly with my grandfather and partly my uncle. We decided on First Time Ever I Saw Your Face. It was my uncle's suggestion. He said my parents played it at their wedding for their first song. I'm going with the Leona Lewis version, though.

A bit of luck does not go astray when things are looking rough.
I think its more then being optimistic, its inner strength.
I believe its in everyone,at least for those once in a lifetime when things go terribly wrong, and for most, once in a lifetime is enough to know that it is there.
You did it,you made it.
As bad and horrific as that time was, it is also a beacon of your strength, you should be very proud of yourself.

I always get attached. But I can't afford to have another dog. And just helping her find a good home is rewarding enough. Very hard to say good bye, but sometimes they stay for a few months, and I get to spend a few months with another wonderful animal, knowing she was going to die just because of her breed, okay I know blah blah blah. Yes, it's very hard to see them go. I don't know how I do it. I'm actually playing hookie from school to go and pick her up, so shh. Don't tell anyone. :D

I have spent hours on that link. It's very extensive, telling you all about nutrients of all the healthiest foods.
It's not really a cookbook. It's similar to the website, telling you about the best foods to eat. It will then give recipes of the healthiest way to cook many of the foods. It's a thick book. I thought it was well worth the price, but you'll be disappointed if you are looking for a cookbook.
That price is in American dollars.

I guess I used the wrong term... I knew it wasn't a cook book per say. But you it does sound like it's well worth it, especially if that type of cooking interests you (which it does).
I love cooking, I can be stressed to max, come home and look forward to cooking a huge complicated meal. I have no formal training, but my fathers daughter cooks at a 5 star restaurant, and he taught me the joy of cooking. Like taking the time to rinse and roast your rice before cooking.

I love to cook and bake. I don't have formal training either. My grandmother was a great cook, leaning on Italian dishes. I learned a lot from her. My mom wasn't a very good cook, so I'd cook meals when I was growing up. I made my first complete Thanksgiving dinner when I was 13, and after that my parents both wanted me to do all the holiday dinners. I thought it was fun... plus I thrive on compliments. :D

Oh Gawd, you started this Enigma, but here is the story to top all stories... Nothing better than doing it behind a dumpster and getting up only to find someone else's condom stuck to your arse...

Sex outside is lovely. There's just something about feeling the cool air press down upon your bare skin... its just awesome.

If you like the threat of being caught, try having sex in a car at a police station parking lot. just saying.
Is that a proposal?

Had a used condom stuck to the bottom of my shoe once, but I wasn't in the throes of passion at the time.
Sex in the car, driver side, leg gets stuck between the door and the seat, lover opens the door to release your leg, you fall out. :(
Water bed is always fun, unless you get seasick easily. ;)

In the middle of the night, outside, while raining, up against the wall of your house, under a security light. Mmmm mmm mmm

Which cheeks? The ones the condom was stuck to?
Use soap, and a loufa. :)
