How can I by-pass the remote because the receiver is not working? Thanks

You can't bypass the receiver without unwirng it. It breaks your flow of power and must come out. It is not real difficult is in the canopy. With just a small amount more work you could install a new receiver/transmiter kit.

How many wires connect to the receiver?
